Let's pray and work for peace ...
MINISTER'S STUDY
God makes progress in the world. As others
are biotin into the Kingdom, and as,
believers piartice more of the command-
ments of there is progress
for that "ppeace ofsurely
God which passes
understanding".
This season again we celebrate the birth
of the "Prince of Peace." "Unto us a child is
born, unto us a son is given, and the govern-
ment is upon His shoulders." He is really the
prince of peace, and like His rule, so with
the peace that he gives — the peace, too, is
evgeyr°. , _
How , ipaoce that Christ
gives from the peace that the world puts in
place for a little while.
Aswe have our call! as

"p ers." Our capiog is to pray for
peace and to work for peace. Our calling is
to sacrifice and to bring peace to a broken
world. There is brokenness all around, and
only (Nisi has the answer. If you really
believe that Christ is the peacernaltex, then
you also go to work to bring healing in the
broken relationships you.
This Christmas let us do more than sing
about "peace among men." This Christmas
let's also pray and work and sacrifice to
make that peace a
A Christma s message...
BY PASTOR BARRY ,
`1111II4TIY CHRISTIAN
REFORMED CHURCH
One of the themes of Christmas is "peace
among men". Christ was prophesied to be
the "Prince of Peace." The angels who
came sang about "peace among men with
whom God is well pleased."
Again this season it would be easy for the
skeptics to scoff and to ask: "Where is the
peace among men?" The United States and
Russia are farther from peace than they
were last year this time; the Middle East is
as fractured as it ever was; and the Catholic
and Protestant "Christians" of Northern
Ireland are still pointing guns and pulling
triggers. Indeed, there is much tension and
there will likely be more before Christmas
Day. -
No doubt there will be those who will point
to the
tension as
proof that
Christ is not
"Prince of Peace" and that Christmas is ac-
tually in the same league as the fairy tale
stories.
But did Christ promise instant peace?
Isn't Christ's Kingdom still coming? And
doesn't Christ have to return to complete the
peace of the Kingdom?
There will be perfect peace only when
Christ returns. In the meantime, we can
believe that the peace of the Kingdom is
deepening and widening, as the Kingdom of

FATHER A.F. LOEBACH,
ST. PETER'S ROMAN
CATHOLIC CHURCH
Who could hope to tell the story of God's
love for mankind better that the evangelist
St. Luke whose inspired pen has given us the
age-old story that is new every time we hear
it?
It was a `story' that was being written
from the very beginning of the human race
when God reached out to sinful humanity in
the of our First Parents arents and spoke in
prophecy of the future victory over evil and
death that would come about through Christ
(Genesis 2: 15).
The `story' continued to unfold when God
chose His servant Abraham and promised
him descendants as numerous "as the dust
of the earth...too mighty to be counted".
(Gen. 13: 16). It showed itself most forceful-
ly in the story of the People of Israel who
were chosen by God and protected by Him
so that their destiny could be fulfilled: to be
theracefrom which the Redeemer would

cy as we read the words of Holy Scripture:
"In those days Caesar Augustus issued a
decree
for a census of the whole world to be taken.
This census - the first - took place
while Quirinius was governor of Syria,
and one went to his own town to be
registered.
So Joseph set out from the town of Nazareth
in Galilee
and travelled up to Judaea, to the town of
David called Bethlehem,
since he was of David's House and line,
in order to be registered together with
tusbetrothed, who was with child.
While they were there the time came for her
to have her child,
and she gave birth to a son, her first-born.
She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and
laid him in a manger
because
there
was no
room for them
at
inn.
In the countryside close by there were
shepherds
who lived in the fields and took it in turns
to watch over their flocks during the night.
The angel of the Lord appeared to them
and the glory of the Lord shone around
them.
They were terrified, but the angel said:
"Do not be afraid. Listen, I bring you news
of great joy,
a joy to be shared by the whole people.
Today in the town of David a Saviour has
been born to you;
he is Christ the Lord.
And here is a sign for you: you will find a
baby
wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a
manger."
And suddenly with the angel there was a
great throng
of the heavenly host, praising God and sing-
ing;
"Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and peace to men who enjoy his favor."
