"And there was Light" was the theme off
the Knox United Interdenominational Sun-
day school concert held in the church
auditorium last Saturday evening. The
minister, Gary Shuttleworth, welcomed all
Mid thanked the teachers and helpers for
preparing the evening's concert. The
organist, Mrs. Gordon Gross and the
pianist, Mrs. Laura Lawrence, played
several numbers while parents were gather-
ing.
The processional was done to the song,
Angels from the Realms of Glory and the
nursery class, with teachers Tammy Shut-
tleworth and Lori Millian, listened to the
Christmas story and sang. They were
Rachel Arthur, Tammy Middlecamp, Craig
Empey, Janice Marie Young, Catherine
Powell, Scott Perry, Tracy Millian and
Cheryl Ramsay.
The kindergarten class, with teachers,
Mrs. Gail Dobie, Mrs. Lynn Chamney and
Miss Angela Millian, decorated a Christmas
tree while they said verses. They were
Michael Luna, John Armstrong, Benjamin
Craig, David Campbell, Nathan Durnin,
Shannon Perry, Bradley Ramsay, and
Jason Rutledge.
The primary class, with teachers Miss
Angela Schneider and pupils Shane
Webster, Jonathon Collins, Marty
Lawrence, Laurel Campbell, Michael Bak-
ker, April Gross, Kurt Marchl, Karin
Millian, Shawn Perry, Marc Bricker, Ryan
Chamney, Shelley Dobie, Peter Craig and
Scott Arthur, said their Christmas verses.
Grade 3 and 4 girls marched into the
church carrying old fashioned candle
lanterns and singing carols with teachers
Mrs. Brenda Powell and Miss Kim Scott.
Pupils were Donna Lynn Armstrong, Rose
Marie Young, Leslie Lawrence, Alison
Chamney, Susan Dobie, Christy Bricker,
Kerry Bakker, Jodi Webster, Janice
Webster, Cathy Nesbitt, Ruth Anne Bakker
and Annette Vincent.
The young teen class, with teacher, Mrs.
Darlene Empey, had readers and speakers,
Glynis Marie Young, Bryan Ramsay, Julie
Glenn, Sharon Ramsay, Steven Millian,
Dwight Caldwell and Sandra Deveau.
Grade 3 and 4 boys, with teachers Mrs.
Barbara Bakker and Mrs. Walter Marchl,

Caldwell, Stuart Bakker, Jeff Nesbit, Lane
Lawrence, Karen Plunkett, Shannon
Millian, Anita Gross, Leona Cunningham
and Lori Armstrong.
All children and parents went to the base-
ment where a lighted Christmas tree and
Santa Claus arrived and gave out gifts and
treats to all.

tions used today. The.lights were lit to repre-
sent the light of Jesus Christ Coming into the
world. The candles were lit by Michael
Schneider, Marty Lawrence C and y
Nesbit. Mr. Craven was assisted by Angela
Schneider and Vic Stackhouse.
Mrs. Murray Nesbit was the organistand
the offering was received by the rector's
warden, James Schneider and the people's
warden, Donald Cartwright.

Special Service
Knox United Church, Auburn had a
special service last Sunday with the
minister, Gary Shuttleworth in charge. Mrs.
Greg lark was the organist and the Advent
Candle was lit by Mrs. Dorothy Grange.
The ¢¢enior choir sang the anthem, 0 Come
Emmriuel and the junior choir, under the
direction of Mrs. Allan Webster and Mrs.
Gordon Gross, sang Gentle Gentle Jesus.
The junior congregation was taken by Mrs.
Glen Webster and Julie Cunningham. The
ushers were Bob Worsell and Larry
Plaetzer.
Mr. Shuttleworth's theme for his sermon
was 'Redemption'.
A special invitation was issued to
everyone to attend the candlelight service
on Christmas Eve, December 24 at 8 p.m.
Each family is asked to bring a candle to the
service.

Obituary
Mrs. Jean Hill (Plumsteel) Snell, a
former Auburn resident, passed away in
South Huron Hospital, Exeter on December
12 in her 75th year. She was the beloved wife
of the late Reverend Harold J. Snell, a
former minister of Knox United Church in
Auburn and Donnybrook; mother of Peter
William Snell of Exeter; sister of Mrs.
Margaret Kingston of Seattle, Washington;
and grandmother of Linda, Heather and
Russ.
She was predeceased by two sons, Rodger
and Gordon Snell and one sister, Eleanor
Plumsteel.
The funeral was held last Wednesday at
Exeter with burial taking place in Ball's
Cemetery, Auburn.

A special Christmas Eve service will be
held in St. Mark's Anglican Church at 9:00
p.m. on December 24. Everyone is welcome.
The community is pleased to report that
Mrs. Norman McDowell returned home last
week after being a patient in Wingham and
District Hospital for a few weeks.
The Couple's Club of Knox United church,
about 25 persons, went out carolling last
Sunday evening around the village. They
later arrived at the church where lunch was
served by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Gross and
Mr. and Mrs. Barry Millian.
Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Rodger were
guests last Saturday of their grandchildren,
Mr. and Mrs. Randy Maize at Dungannon.

The Knox United Church Women held
their annual Christmas pot -luck dinner
Wednesday, December 14 with husbands
and guests attending. A delicious dinner was
served smorgasbord style and a worship
service followed. Gary Shuttleworth said
Grace.
Mrs. Jack Armstrong, the president,
opened with a short address and Mr. Shut-
tleworth thanked the United Church Women
for their surprise Christmas gift.
The program, "The Christmas Story", in
music and work, was presented with Mrs.
Peter Verbeek in charge. She read the scrip-
ture lesson on Jesus' birth from the Gospel
of St. Luke, followed by all singing, "It
Came Upon a Midnight Clear."
A candle was lit representing 'The Light
of the World' and a lovely duet was sung by
Mrs. Emerson Rodger and Mrs. Tom Jardin
with Mrs. Marjorie McDougall as pianist.
Mrs. Jack Armstrong, Mrs. Dorothy Grange
and Mrs. Oliver Anderson lit eight candles
representing the various 'Lights of the
World'. The lights were for those without
hope, for the poor and humble, for those
forgotten, for people at war, for children, for
the afflicted and oppressed and for those
who seek. Various Christmas carols in-
terspersed the candle lighting. Mrs. Gordon
Gross played a piano solo, `The Star of the
East'.
The last candle, the light for ourselves,
was then lit and Silent night was sung. A
reading, written by Helen Steiner Rice, `The
Most Priceless Gift of Christmas,' was
given by Mrs. Elliott Lapp.
Mrs. Tena Empey called Mrs. Jack Arm-
strong to the front and presented her with a
life -membership pin, thanking her for her
active leadership for the past two years. Joy
to the World was sung and the minister,
Gary Shuttleworth, pronounced the benedic-
tion.

Thirty-one students graduated from the Recreation Department's modelling course that
concluded Tuesday. The two month program was taught by Susan Saunders who has been a
professional model for six years. The students she had ranged from 12 to 32 -years -old. The
Recreation Department win be starting another modelling course in January. The top four
