The concert started with 0 Canada followed by the senior choir singing three special ' numbers, "Gaudeamus Hodie", "Twas in the Moon of Winter -Time" and "Stars that Twinkle and Shine" with Mrs. Little conducting and Mrs. Lamont accompanying. The kindergarten and Graded pupils, witt teachers Mrs. Starkey and Mrs. Chisholm and accompanist Mrs. Little, had some recitations and sang a Christmas carol. The Grade 2 class presented a short play, "The Magic Christmas Tree" with their teacher Mrs. Nakamura, accompanied by Mrs. Dustow and with star carrier Alex Hoernig helping. The Grad 3s presented "The Boy Who Laughed a anta Claus" with David Bogie as Santa and Andrea Imanse as Jabez Dawes. As the main performers, they made everyone laugh. Their teacher is Mrs. Lamont. The Grade 4 students, with teacher Mr. Sanders, showed slides and recited, "Twas the Night Before Christmas". The Grade 5-8 students presented the play, "A Song for Christmas". This was a very appropriate play opening with a church scene when the choir discovers the organ isn't working_ The minister arrives and informs them the organ cannot be repaired and he has written the lyrics for a new Christmas song which he wants set to music . and sung by the choir with guitar ac- companiment for the Christmas Eve ser- vice. Things become complicated but on' COLBORN CORNS :IR Gertrude Knitting, 524®01:076 Christmas eve, the choir sings "Silent Night" which is well received by the congregation. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brindley of Goderich, OPP to celebrate 75th anniversary in 1984 The Ontario Provincial Police are celebrating their 75th year of law enforce- ment in 1984. The provincial police force was founded in 1909. From the original 45 men, it has ex- panded to its present-day complement of 5,200 police officers and civilian support staff. The OPP polices almost one million square kilometres in Ontario as it has a "residual" policing responsibility: that is, it polices all of those areas which do not have an established police force. OPP Commissioner Archie Ferguson said, "The OPP has been an important ele- ment in the development of this province during the 20th century. The OPP is present in almost 200 communities and many of the anniversary activities planned will involve people in the communities we police." Comm. Ferguson said that one of the first signs of the 75th anniversary will be bright colored decals displayed on OPP cruisers. The decals will also be placed on doors leading into OPP buildings. An underlying theme of the anniversary will be the provincial police force's prepara- tion for the years leading up to the hun- dredth anniversary in the year 2009.. Prominent in the 75th birthday celebra- tions will be the OPP Pipes and Drums Band and the Golden Helmets Motorcycle Preci- sion Team. They will be visiting fairs and parades all over the province. Included in the anniversary plans is publication of a book on the history of the OPP. It is expected that this book will become a valued addition to many private and public collections.
