Round 'n About with Marth O,ut of milk - some days we use more than we expect to use but I try to keep ahead - oh well - I like puffed wheat - the ones with the bran still on them. They're pretty dry without milk. Ice cream! That's milk too - so I add a big spoonful of ice cream to .the puffs, Now, there's a trick to eating it this way. This ad- vice is especially helpful to mothers with small kids who hate milk and small cereals, so TRY it, as you can create all kinds of interesting -interesting bribes and games. Counting the puffs you pick up on a spoon with a little lump of ice cream IS interesting - you pick up at least ten and most kids can count to ten by the time they are two - it seems. Taking a small bit of the ice cream and a lot of puffs - can put away a couple of bowls of cereal in no time. If the worst comes to the worst - you can always use a dab of sticky jam the same way. You live and learn new tricks every day. Just have fun doing it, your little guys and gals grow up so fast - and so tall nowadays! Just LOVE them! Saturday was a busy day...well, so was Friday - and Thursday - what am I talking about - I hadn't had a lazy day until Sunday. That's when I didn't want to get up early. I was tired from all the going and coming the week before - and I felt I had better rest for the week ahead. Saturday I saw L'il Abner at GDCI and really enjoyed it. The young people were very good, their acting, singing, speaking - even the orchestra was VERY good. What more does a person want? December is party month as you well know. Usually, for me it is just a big headache -month and I'm glad when it is over, but December 1983 has been very ex- citing for me. To begin, the first three days wore me down to nubbins. The show of my paintings at the Suncoast Mall was just great. I had a let of compliments but best of all, I had a lot of conversations with people I hadn't seen for a long time. I was hoarse and talked out when I arrived home. Now, I'm trying to get ready to take Walt to the warm country - but so many wonder- ful things seem to interrupt the hodgepodge kind of sorting and packing that I do - every so often! You may never know how I'm torn between the north and the south. I enjoy it while I'm there - love every minute of it - but I'm stalled when it comes to get ready to leave - no matter which way I'm headed. Both ends are wonderful. I was raised - or "brung up" - in a small town that just barely clings to the map of )1rP Essex County - and here again I have to mention the fantastic sight of seeing that map from the air - lying there in the sun - all the roads, villages and towns standing or ly- ing just where they should be - nothing visibly changed in half a century - or more. For the first time I could see down into Point Pelee and in the upper corner of the map. Windsor, and of course the higher buildings of Detroit, made that map real with its tall buildings standing against the sun. The small Lake St. Clair was' just an uneven patch of blue and the rivers which ran from Lake Huron through the deep dredged cut across Lake St. Clair all the way to flat Lake Erie - were so blue; but complementing the yellow-orangey country on the map. I was as thrilled as if I had just discovered this beautiful land. It was all there - just as I knew it when I was in school. Because I had always seen it in my mind in three dimen- sion - the sight of it just lying ahead of us - then under us - was a thrill I can wish for all of you someday. I have other sights I hope I never forget. One was the first Christmas season in Goderich. As we drove up West Street, there were the lights gleaming through the slowly falling snow, hanging all around Courthouse Park like fairy strings of diamonds, lazily looped like scalloped line -- oh, you've SEEN it! I saw it again one evening two or three years ago about this time of the year. The stores around the Square were closed. Not a car or person in sight, and I stepped on the brakes and just stared! There it was again! The same old magic, but there were no loops of tiny lights but the snow with the soft gleam of yellowed lights was very effective. It brought a lump to my throat - why am I leaving all this? Then I remembered WHY. How many wigters had we fought the elements to take our hockey players to Owen Sound or St. Marys or some other too far away place to be tI'aveiiing in winter storms! I thank the Lord we had no ac- cidents in all those years. One year five of those kids had ME as a driver to Huntsville for the playoffs. We didn't see any of the other cars and figured we were bringing up the rear and maybe they were worried about ut. But we didn't mention this as we sat at the Huntsville Arena waiting for THEM. That year again, they won the championship. Great memories. Great kids! We really have a big family! And we loved ALL of them. So now, we wish all of you the hap- piest of holidays and may all your good wishes come true in the New Year. We won't forget you! Love, Martha and Walt.
