Goderich Juveniles still winning
Continuing their winning ways are th
Goderich Juvenile Signal -Stars as the
stomped Thamesford 10-4 on Saturday an
then shutout Parkhill 8-0 on Sunday.
The two teams took turns dominatin
periods at the Thamesford arena, with
Goderich capitalizing on their opportunities
more frequently than the home team.
During the first period, Goderich kept
Thamesford off the scoreboard while they
netted seven goals of their own. John
Thompson opened the scoring with only two
minutes gone in the game. Brent Williamson
scored the second goal of the game when he
took a pass f rom.Dave Gallow.

Hallam connected to score two in a row with
Hallam putting the puck in the net.

Thamesford goaltender one minute later
followed by an unassisted goal by Phil
Wood.•
The second period was dominated by
Thamesford as they held Goderich scoreless
but could not match their opposition's seven
goals, however, they did manage to get
three of their own.
Hallman scored on another passing play
from Gallow and Willems but Thamesford
netted one, making the score 8-4.
Goderich's Gallow netted the next goal,
giving him one goal and six assists for the
night. The final goal was scored by Hallman
who had a big night with four goals.
Also playing an impressive game was
Pete Willems with one goal and six assists.
Goderich 8 - Parkhill 0
The local Juveniles pleased the hometown
crowd as they defeated Parkhill 8-0 on
Sunday.
Brent Williamson opened the scoring
when he took a pass from Tim Jaynes. John
Thompson was next to score with assists
going to Pete Willems and Dave Gallow.
Before the period was over, Gallow netted
one of his own, unassisted.
Parkhill played a better brand of defen-
sive hockey during the second period,
allowing only one goal to beat their goalie.
Scott Stoll was the scorer of the goal with
assists going to Gallow and Hallam.
Thirty-nine seconds into the third period
saw Willems score, giving his team a 5-0
lead. Thompson put the puck between the
posts for his second of the night, followed by
Brent Williamson's second goal of the night.
Assists went to Andrew Telford while
Gallow picked up his fifth assist of the night
as well as having scored one goal.
The Juvenile Signal -Stars are undefeated this season as they
continue to out -play their opponents. On Sunday they defeated
Goderich's final goal of the game was
scored by Scott Stoll who had a two goal
night.
Five out of possible six points
The Goderich Signal -Star Juveniles had a
big weekend December 3, by taking five out
of a possible six points with victories over
Belmont and Exeter and a tie with St.
Marys.
In Belmont, Jeff Sargant led the scoring
with two goals and two assists. Paul
McCartney scored midway through the first
period. John Peters and Scott Stoll notched
the two remaining goals. Brent Williamson

added a pair of assist with singles going !o

The game against Exeter was the Jeff
Denomme. show. The converted goaltender
notched three goals and had an assist for the
juvej)les as they coasted to an 8-1 victory.
John Thompson added two goals and two
assists. Keith Hallam also added a pair of
goals and an assit. His first goal was
unassisted and his second was assisted by
linemates Jeff Feagan and Scott Stoll.

on a good shot to the right hand corner of the
net. Jeff Sargent had three assists and Phil
Wood had one.
On Sunday the Juveniles travelled to St.
Marys in a game in which they pulled out a
last second tie. It was a hard hitting game
with many questionable calls that worked
against Goderich.
St. Marys opened the scoring in the first
period but Goderich came right back as
Dave Gallow scored on a give and go from
John Thompson. St. Marys added two more
goals which upped their lead to 3-1. Goderich
carne back with Tim Chisholm scoring and
John Thompson and Pete Willems drawing
assists, but it was Andrew Telford who took
a pass from Dave Gallow and scored with
just 27 seconds remaining, giving Goderich
a tie.
After three losses
Bantams finally defeat
BY C.B. Strathroy's favor. He also added that the
line of Durnin, Duncan and Leppington
played a more aggressive game than usual
On Saturday evening at the local arena
the Goderich 1 Elevator) Bantams took on
their rivals from Strathroy for the fourth
time this season. In the previous encounters
the locals emerged as losers,: by small
scores. Such was not the case this time as
the Goderich boys won 6-3. Coming off a
high from a very successful Clinton tourna-
ment in which they defeated a team who had
trounced Strathroy, they pounced on their
rivals from the very beginning of the game.
Aggressive forechecking, the key ingredient
needed to defeat a team like Strathroy, was
the prime objective of the Goderich team
and they carried it out successfully.
Byron Bowman opened the scoring for
Goderich with an assist going to Scott Gar -
row. It was the only goal of the first period.
In the second period Richard Boddy
started it off for Goderich again, with Shawn
Larder and Bill Trebish receiving assists. A
couple of minutes later Darrell Durnin
made it 3-0, assisted by Dave Duncan. Ap-
proximately four minutes later Strathroy
scored their first goal. Seconds before the
period ended, Scott Garrow scored an
unassisted goal and Goderich led 4-1.
Less than two minutes into, the third
period, defenceman Brian Chambers scored
his first goal of the season with Scott -,Gar-
row receiving another assist. In the middle
of the period the Goderich players let up a
bit and Strathroy added two goals within a
few minutes of each other. Scott Garrow
came back shortly thereafter with his se-
. ;cond unassisted goal to make it 6-3 in favor
of Goderich and the final score.
Coach Wilkinson, viewing the game from
the sidelines, felt that Greg Townsend
played an exceptional garne in the Goderich
net, coming up with some key saves that
could have otherwise turned the game in
and should receive honorable mention.
From facts obtained off the game sheet it
would appear that the only negative aspect
of the game was in the area of penalty
minutes. Goderich drew a total of 36
minutes as opposed to 24 by Strathroy.
A fter having several chances at putting{lhe puck in Strathrop's net,
Byron Bowman'is stopped when the oppositions goaltender knmeks
'the puck down with his blocker. The Goderieh Elevator Bantams
won 6-3. This was the fob meeting between the teams, with
Goderich getting their first win. (photo by Dave Sykes)
PORTS SHORTS
The Goderich Gee Gees men's basket, -
ball team increased their record to 6-1 with
an exciting 51-50 victory over Gamaby of
Owen Sound. Andrew Moore and Warren
Watt came up with big gains offensively
with 16 and 15 points respectively. Jim
Watt came up with a strong game defen-
sively holding Gamsby's top scorer to six
points while dropping in 10 of his own.
The Double G s almost let the game slip
away, leading by 16 points at half time.
They needed the dutch foul shooting by
Dennis Donnelly to preserve the win. Al
Sygrove and Phil Bugler displayed fine
back court playing ability against
Gamsby's potent full court press. Greg
Smith rounded out the scoring for
Goderich with eight points.
The GG's next game will be December

Goderich broornball
players host tourney
Thirty-two teams will be competing in
the Goderich Broomball Tournament to be
held over the weekend of Deceinber 16, 17
and 18.
The tournament will be sponsored by
two local broomball teams, the Goderich
Oarsmen and the Goderich Harbourlites,
and Carling O'Keefe.
A total of $2,850 in prizes will be up for
grabs with $600 going to the first place
finishers in the men's division and $400 for
the winners of the ladies' division. There
will also be individual and runner up
prizes.
Mayor Eileen Palmer will officially
start the tournament on Friday at 7 p.m.
when she drops the ball at centre ice.
This will be the second year in a row that
the Oarsmen and the Harbourlites will be
holding the broomball tournament with
last year's being a success. This year there
will be 20 teams competing in the men's
division and 12 teams in the ladies'.
With the formation of a second Goderich
ladies' team, the Night Riders, spectators
will have a rhanee to watch three home
town teams perform, as well as attend a
dance which will be held both Friday and
Saturday nights, for only $1.
Broomball is becoming a fast growing
sport in this area, (as indicated by the
addition of the third Goderich team) but
the local teams travel to Blyth to par-
ticipate in their league. Some day the
Goderich players hope to get a league
started in town.
Broomball is similar to hockey with the
exception of a few rules, as well as
wearing special shoes instead of skates,
and using a ball instead of a puck. One of
the rules that is changed in broomball is
the off -side call. Off -side is called at the
redline, not the blueline. Also, when a
game is tied with only five minutes left to
play, each team pulls their goaltender and
plays with only four players and the clock
stops every time the whistle blows.
For those who have never seen the game
played, this weekend gives them the
perfect opportunity to come out and see
what the sport is all about.
