Pharmacists introduce new product for diabetics People with diabetes in the Goderich area will now be able to Obtain new no -wash Visidex II reagent strips, an improved visual self-monitoring system for blood glucose reading. The importance of home blood glucose monitoring is being stressed in the treat- ment of diabetes, and physicians are anx- ious to involve their diabetic patients in the management of their condition. Visidex II reagent strips allow diabetics to monitor their blood glucose levels at home, using an easy -to -read color comparison chart to measure results instantly. Manufactured and distributed by the Aures Division of Miles Laboratories Ltd., Visidex 11 reagent strips require a single drop of blood, usually obtained painlessly by using an Autolet device that automatically pricks a finger. The drop of blood is placed on the strip, then blotted with a tissue. After the reagent strip changes color, it is com- pared to a simple easy -to -read block of graduated colors on the package, giving an instant read-out of blood glucose levels. The total elapsed time is two minutes. Traditionally, diabetics had to rely on Literary contest Another successful lite►ary contest was sponsored• by the public libraries of the Midwestern Regional Library System. The Dorothy Shoemaker 1aterary Awards.. Contest, named after a former ct librarian of the Kitchener Public Lily urine testing, which provided accurate results, but the information was not suffi- cient to make short-term adjustments for self -treatment in the home. "Visidix 1I is another improved product for diabetics," says Jaynes Gellatly, Sales Development Manager for Ames. "It represents our ongoing commitment to research and development in the field of diabetes. New Visidex II has distinct advan- tages over other visual strips, requires a very small drop of blood which spreads easi- ly on the pad, and no washing is required. Another advantage is that the matching of the color blocks is much easier, with no need to compare two color ranges simultaneous- ly „ Used with the new Digital Read -Out Autolet device, the tinning is conveniently displayed in digital read-out form. Visidex II is the most convenient reagent strip available to diabetics. The authorized Ames Self -Testing Centre in Goderich is Rieck Pharmacy, 19 The Square, which carries a full line of Ames products for people with diabetes. Supplies of Visidex II are also obtainable at most major pharmacies in the Goderich area. attracts 500 this year attracted 500 entries from aspiring authors and poets.
