SIGNALSTAR, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 1983 Mr. and Mrs. Greg Bird James Gregory Bird, son of Mrs. Mary (Alister) Bird of Goderich, and Janette Marlene Brown of R.R. 6 Goderich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barrie Brown, were married in Nile United Church by the Reverend R. Roberts on October 15. Matron of honor was Brenda Brown, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Lisa Brown, Donna Maize and Sheri Parsonage. Marianne Vanderburgh was the flowergirl. Groomsman was Clark Williams of Strat- ford. Guests were ushered into the church by John Bird, Paul Brown and Bernie Gerdes. John Lowe of Brussels was the ringbearer. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Saltford Valley Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Greg Bird took up residence at 5 Quebec Street in Vanastra. Clinton delegates in- cluded Provincial Secretary Donna Wood, Clinton Public Hospital Auxiliary Treasurer Roberta Plumsteel and first vice president of the local organization Joyce Chilton. Highlighting the three day convention was a presentation by the Metro Organ Retrieval and Exchange Program (MORE) on Nov. presid's for convention 27. The sessions continued on Nov. 28 and on Nov. 29 a one day session was held on leadership and communications, led by June Lemanex an Ottawa professional human relations consultant. Earl Lindsay of Renfrew, a member of the Canadian trekking group at the time of the Canadian assault on Mount Everest in 1't 2 discussed the Mount Everest challenge with an illustrated address at the annual banquet on Nov. 28. ,.At the banquet 28 life memberships were presented to auxiliary members from across the province. There are nearly 54,000 hospital auxiliary volunteers in the province in 216 hospital ai'vfliaries, which included 1,300 male volunteers. During the r.=,st year auxiliaries have raised in excess of $9.2 million, with hospital gift shops bringing in $3.7 million of this total. Auxiliaries have donated to their hospitals nearly $8 million mostly for equipment purchased with remaining funds used for items such as local bursaries, education and investments. The Junior Women's Institute chose as their Bicentennial project to have 22 maple trees planted near the Women's Institute Hall at the Ontario Agricultural Museum at Milton. They donated money to the World Project, "Fresh Water for All", and presented trophies to the disabled at the Murderball Championships in Toronto. Hon. Dennis Timbrell, Minister of Agriculture and Food, addressing the members at a luncheon, enlarged on the plans for the Bicentennial. Historical farms are being recognized, history revived and plans made for the Queen's visit. Women's Institute members across Ontario are mak- ing a quilted wall hanging depicting features of each area. This will be presented to the province to be hung in the Legislative Buildings in Toronto. Mrs. Harvey Noblitt of Ottawa, the Presi- dent of the Federated Women's Institute of Canada, urged the women to study and know the important issues that concern the family ... the Criminal Code, Canada Health Act, equality of employment, the damaging effects of the exploitation of women and children, sexual abuse, and pornography. Playhouse gets new board The annual general meeting for Huron Country Playhouse was held at Sanders On The Beach Restaurant in Grand Bend on Tuesday, November 22. The Board of Directors for the 1983-84 year will be led by Jill Waters of Parkhill as chairman, Adrian Bayleybbf Hensall as past chairman, Dave Sheppard of Grand Bend as vice-chairman, Dave Bannister of Grand Bend as secretary, and Russ Lingard of Grand Bend as treasurer. Other executive members will be Angela Amitt of London, Bettie Gibbs of Parkhill, Jim Kneale of Grand Bend and Tory McKenzie of Bayfield as the representative of the HCP Ladies' Guild. Returning to the Board will be Bert Albertson of Grand Bend, Mary Fran Gaiser of Exeter, Audrey Harris of Komoka, Bill Heinsohn of London, Marie Homans of Grand Bend, Esmail Merani of Exeter, Dan Murphy of Goderich and Sharon Statham of Strathroy. New members will be Mary Alderson of Grand Bend, Ellen Coutts of Grand Bend, Edward Iskauskas of Grand Bend, Jack Levie of Parkhill, Peter Phillips of Exeter and Bruce Woodley of Grand Bend.
