A WORD FROM OUR CREATOR WOULD BE IN ORDER. "THE STEPS OF A GOOD MAN ARE ORDERED BY THE LORD" ( PSALMS 37:231. NOTICE TWO IMPOR- TANT PARTS IN THIS VERSE: "STEPS" AND "GOOD MAN". STEPS ... what are -they ... short distances that eventually take us to our destination. For the believer, living in God's Kingdom, a secret of contentment and peace is learning to live by the day, one day at a time, a step at a time. What lies ahead for our im- mediate future, we know not. Consider the woes of nuclear war, civil unrest, violence throughout the world, and in our local communities. It's frightening just to think about the possibilities. Inst week, my brother-in-law was ac- costed by three men in London, a gun held to MINISTER'S STUDY his gut, then beaten before having his wallet and money stolen. What's going on anyway? A world out of control? Not so for the believer who knows His God. My brother-in-law responded to me by phone, following the incident, "It's something you must expect today, although it is indeed bewildering at the time it actual- ly happens. Anyhow, I didn't fear death. They couldn't harm me on the inside (because he is a Christian) . Those guys are just people hurting on the inside of themselves." Isn't it good that we do not see the whole. Life does not come to us all at one time. It comes a day at a time. And of a truth, short horizons make life easier. Before taking, a trip across the country, we used to stretch the'maps out on the table; and we saw the whole trip. But actually we didn't see anything. We had to travel those miles to experience them. We had to take the trip mile by mile, hour by hour, incident by incident, before it meant anything to us. And life has to be lived that way. We must take it a step at a time. For the Christian, confidence in the journey of life is the knowledge that God is leading every step of the way. Every single moment is in His control — providing a per- son wants it that way and yields to God's will. There's another part to my text, you'll recall. "Good man'. Who is the good man? He's the person who has turned his life over to Jesus Christ as Lord of life. That person knows that every step of life is directed and ordered of the Lord. Such a confidence in my God's abilities to care for my `steps' give me peace within, when all around trou- ble and turmoil brew. By the way, are you a `good man'? Have you been born again (John 3:3), and has Jesus been made Lord? Why not take a mo- ment now with your Creator, and consider His plan for your life. Missionary to speak at Free Methodist Church The Reverend Walter Silver, missionary to Central Africa since 1970, will speak and give a colored slide presentation at the Goderich Free Methodist Church, Park St. at Victoria, on Saturday, December 3 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 4, at 11 a.m. Mr. Silver spent his last three years in Africa in the country of Burundi. After some discussion they agreed that "The Purpose of the Arthur Cir- cle is to support the missions at home and abroad and to promote fellowship, worship and inspiration."
