vee money to CPRI
The Bluewater Centre Volunteer
Association ceased operations September
16, 1963 because of the closing of the facility.
The Association has, over its history, earned
and contributed many thousands of dollars
which were spent for the welfare of
Bluewater Centre residents.
Since the decision to dose the Centre was
announced, the Association's aim has been
to distribute their assets as fairly -as possible
to the residents and to the betterment of
their lives wherever they may go.
The initial aim was to assist in the
residents' move from Bluewater Centre.
This assistance took the form of additional
clothing, luggage, and spending money.
A long term benefit was developed
through a bursary eranted to the f;oderich
District Collegiate Institute under the Huron
Board of Education. This will provide an-
nually, in perpetuity, a bursary of $500 to a
student wishing to pursue a career in the
field of Mental Retardation Counselling.
The final expenditure of the Association
funds was realized Monday. A cheque for
$1,131,55 was presented to Eugene M. Sorin,
Administrator off Children's Psychiatric
Research Centre in London. These funds,
payable to C.P.R.I., are solely for use in
research as it may apply in studies per-
taining to the developmentally han-
dicapped.
The cheque was presented to Mr. Sorin by
Mrs. Grace Patterson who has served as
president of the Association since its in-
ception.
