The Goderich Signal-Star, 1983-11-23, Page 41Juveniles
are winning
The Goderich Signal -Stars defeated
Exeter 8-1 on ,Sunday at the Goderich arena,
maintainhig their undefeated record.
Phil Woods opened the scoring early in the
first period when he netted an unassisted
goal which was followed by a goal from John
Thompson. Tim Jaynes and Paul McCar-
tney earned the assists. McCartney slide the
puck past Exeter's netminder after taking a
pass from Jaynes and John Peters, to end
the period 3-0 in favour of the home team.
Exeter was first to score in the second
period, but Goderlch answered with a hat -
trick by Dave Gallow, who scored his three
goals in three minutes.
The third period saw Goderich hold
Exeter's forwards as their own players
chalked up two more to win the game 8-1.
The last two goals were scored by Pete
WiBems and Keith Hallam.
The juveniles play host to Dorchester at 8
p.m. Friday.
Local Atoms
lose two
close games
The Goderich Atoms were defeated in
three outings over the past two weeks,
making their record stand at one win, seven
losses and one tie. On November 11,
Goderich lost a close contest with Parkhill 2-
1. On November 12 they were shutout by
Strathroy 6-0 and then lost 1-0 against Lucan
on Saturday.
Parkhill opened the scoring with the only
goal in the first period and sat on their lead
throughout the second period. The third
period saw them widen their lead by two but
with only two minutes left co play, Goderich
came back with a goal by Chris Erb, but one
was not enough as Parkhill won 2-1.
Assists on Erb's goal went to Todd Papple
and Mark Phillips.
In the game against Strathroy, Goderich
played, an even game with their opponents
throughout the first period, but Strathroy
opened the second period with three quick
goals and added one more before the period
was over. Strathroy was back on the ice with
the same amount of steam when the third
period began, adding another two goals to
their score, defeating the locals 6-0 at the
Goderich arena.
Last Saturday the Atoms showed a better
defence, holding the Lucan team to only one
goal, but the forwards could not find an
opening behind the Lucan goaltender. Lucan
scored the only goal of the game in the
second period to win 1-0.
The Atoms play on Wednesday (tonight)
at 7 p.m. against Strathroy. Strathroy has
defeated Goderich in their previous two
meetings 6-3 and 3-0.
Members of the Pierson Karate School travelled to London for the
Ontario Provincial Tournament and came back with 12 medals.

far. The karate students competed in two categories, fighting and
kata (forms). Medal whiners were: (back left) Jerome Morden,
third fighting; Gary Ross, first kata; Tracey Lesperance, first
