5 cups white flour
2 cups dark rye flour
2 cooked, peeled, grated potatoes
3 tsp. salt
2 tsp. caraway seeds
'!z tsp. yeast
1%,cups warm water
Y4 tsp. sugar
'/4 cup warm water
Dissolve yeast in '/4 cup warm water and 1 tsp. sugar.
In large bowl, combine rye flour, potatoes, salt, caraway
seeds, dissolved yeast and all water.
Stir in as much of the white flour as you can and knead
in the rest. Put in a greased bowl, cover and let rise five to
siz hours or over night.
Knead again and form into one or two loaves on.a greas-
ed cookie sheet (or loaf pans). Let rise one to one and a
half hours. Brush with slightly beaten egg and bake at 350
degrees F. for 40 to 60 minutes.
Note: You can sped up rising by putting the bowl in hot
water e takes 21/2 to 3 hours.

4 hamburger buns Quick Garlic Bread
Garlic powder
Butter or margarine
Mozzarella cheese slices
Place Halved buns on a cookie sheet and set in a warm
oven (250 degrees F) for 10 -15 minutes, to crips outsides.
Take out and spread with butter or margarine. Sprinkle
sparingly with garlic powder and top with mozzarella
cheese.
Bake in a hot oven (400 degrees) for 10 minutes, or until
cheese melts. Delicious, served with spaghetti.

Spicy Squash or
Rutabaga Bread
Flavorsome and moist, this bread keeps well when
tightly wrapped. Canned or mashed pumpkin may be used
instead of squash.
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
'/a tsp. salt
'/z tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
kl tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. allspice
2 eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
'1 cup lightly packed brown sugar
1 cup melted shortening or vegetable oil
1 cup mashed cooked squash, rutabaga or pumpkin ,
ks cup raisins
' cup chopped nuts
Mix or sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and
spices.
Beat eggs; add sugars, shortening, squash and orange
juice; blend thoroughly, combine with dry ingredients,
stirring until thoroughly blended. Stir in raisins and nuts.
Pour into a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan. Bake in 350
degrees F. oven for 60 to 70 mins. or until toothpick in-
serted in centre comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 mins. then
turn out on to wire rack.
