IODE sends bale donation
Maple Leaf Chapter IODE met at the
home of Mrs. R. McDonald on Tuesday,
November 1 with the regent, Mrs. W.J.
McIntyre presiding.
Reports were accepted from the
secretary, Mrs. C. Knight and treasurer,
Mrs. G.B. Kelly.
Mrs. W.J. Garrow, services convener,
reported that the bale, as well as eyeglasses,
had been packed and sent to headquarters
on Tuesday, October 25. Mrs. Garrow
thanked all of the knitters, sewers, packers
and donors of eyeglasses. She also stated
that wool is available for next year.
Ways and means convener, Mrs. C.E.
Boddyt informed the members that Mr.
Dressup will not be available until next
spring.
The education secretary, Mrs. H.J.
Murphy, informed the members that the
1984 IODE calendars are available.
Opportunity Shop convener, Mrs. R.
McDonald, stated that sales are great, and
asked members to please keep merchandise
coming in to the shop. If any members
would prefer a different time to work at the
Opportunity Shop from January to June
1984, Mrs. McDonald asks them to contact
her.
The Echoes secretary, Mrs. A.A. Garland,
stated she would like to hear from any
members who hadn't received their Echoes
magazines.
Tweleve place settings of stainless steel
cutlery will be donated to the new Group
Home in Clinton by the Chapter. Members
also voted to donate funds towards the
National and Provincial IODE allocations.
The Chapter will purchase a wreath for
placement at the cenotaph on Remem-
brance Day, Friday, November 11.
Mrs. W.J. Garrow thanked the hostess and
lunch was then prepared and served by Mrs.
H.W. Bettger and Mrs. G. Hunter.
The December meeting will be held at the
Maitland Country Club on Tuesday,
December 6. Tickets for the dinner may be
obtained from Mrs. P. Strickland. The 1984
nominating committee, consisting of Mrs.
W. Finnie, Mrs. A.A. Garland and Mrs. W.C.
German will report at this meeting.
Members voted to cancel the January
meeting.
IODE supports Youth Centre
C.E. (Gene) Savard, Director General of the value of the program.
the Terry Fox Canadian Youth Centre,
Ottawa, addressed a meeting of the National
Executive Committee IODE on November 1.
He was accompanied by Jim Barry and Lily
Chu, recent participants in the one week
program offered to 16 and 17 -year-old
Canadian students. who spoke en-
thusiastically of their week in Ottawa and of
Mrs. J.D. Williams, National Education
Secretary, presented Mr. Savard with a
cheque for $3,000 to cover half the required
sponsor's fee for each of the 30 students
from the Northwest Territories who will be
participating in the program during the
coming year.

Ontario's community newspapers and CP Air,
coordinator and patron of the Ontario Junior
Citizen of the Year Awards Program, are
seeking entries for 1983.
Recipients will receive a Junior Citizen lapel
pin, plaque, $200 and a family picture with the
Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
