John McDonagh has best chess record
John McDonagh made his first ap-
pearance at the chess club' last week and
won three games. This gives John the best
record in the club after three weeks of play.
Tom Donnelly also had a perfect record
after winning his first game of the season. It
was good to see Les Willems and Grant
Lounsbury, two of our regulars from last
year, out to play for the first time this year.
New member Bill Gauley was welcomed
to the club. Bill plays a good game of chess
and, hopefully will become a regular
member.
George Barwick won two games over
Barry Page and is off to a fast start. Eric
Hallam had two wins. Bob Dick, Doug
Brindley and Mark Maurer all won one
game.
We have had 21 people out to play chess
since the start of the year. Other chess
players in town are welcome to try their
skill out against the club regulars at 160
Regent St., Wednesday nights after 7:30.

Flyers make it
four in a row
The B ford Flyers made it four in row
on October 30 when they defeated Sunset 6-3.
Mike Lapaine scored twice to take the
scoring lead.
Monday's (October 31) first game saw
Garb. and Gear come up with their first win
of the season, downing O'Brien's 74. Dave
Schmidt netted two goals and added two
assists to lead Garb and Gear.
Sunset also recorded their first win on
Monday when they defeated Hodges 5-3.
Rick Stoddart scored twice to lead Sunset.
On Wednesday Ultramar posted their
second win of the year, defeating O'Brien's
7-5. Paul Kelly and Paul Schaefer scored
two each for Ultramar and Doug Rolston got
a hat -trick for O'Brien's.
Thursday in Clinton, Bedford made it five
straight wins, downing Clere-Vu 6-4. Mark
Frayne scored four goals.
Last Sunday Sunset defeated Garb and
Gear 7-4. Kevin Meriam had a hat -trick. The
evening game saw Bedford fight back to tie
the Green Machine at six. Bill Peters had
two goals to lead the Machine and Mark
Frayne scored two for the Flyers.
