A special meeting of the town council was
held last Tuesday' evening and a letter from
Solicitor Dicldflson was read with reference
to the claim of Sangster vs: the tuna for
damages for ,injury sustained through
stepping into a hole near the corner of S.
Morningstar's property. Solicitor Dickinson
has been instructed to defend the action on
behalf of thetown.
The sedimentation basin is now, nearly
ready for connecting with the ;Water works
System SO that it should not be long before
the town's water supply will come through

50 YEARS AGO
William Somerville has resigned as head
miller at Western Canada Flour Mills, a
position he has held for 28 years. He plans to
enjoy a well earned rest after working for
half a century.
Mr. and Mrs. William Cannan of Goderich
celebrated their golden weddign an-
niversary on the weekend with a gathering
of family and friends.
Mrs. Herbert Bridle has been elected
president of the AYPA of St. George's
Church.
Jaynes Leonard has just returned home to
Goderich from one of his periodic jaunts to
Auld Scotland, his native heath, and reports
things are booming in the land of the
heather.
25 YEARS AGO
The king -pin of the completely rebuilt
Goderich police force will be Sergeant
Frederick Minshall, 50, who has served with
the Guelph Police Department for 20 years.
On Monday, November 3 he will become
chief and take over direction of four rookie
constables, replacing ex -chief F.M. (Monty)
Hall who was suspended August 27.
Municipalities served by Goderich
District Collegiate Institute will be asked to
approve the issuance of debentures for a
proposed addition of six classrooms and a
gymnasiurn. The estimated cost of the
project isQZS6,000.
A Goderich woman submitted the winning
entry in an international contest to name a
new species of tulip. "Fiery Morn",
suggested by Mrs. Reg McGee, was chosen
by the Holland Bulb Corporation as the
name for its new species of giant size parrot
tulip.

Municipal elections in Goderich took a
new tontst Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. when
the waiting game played by candidates for
the mayor's office ended. Incumbent Deb
Shewfelt, seeking his third terra in the
mayor's chair, found out where his op
position will conn from when Councillor
Don Wheeler announced Monday he was
running for mayor aid when former mayor
Harry Woraell withdrew his nomirnatfonn for
MC Tuesday in favor of the mayor's chair
t office.
A rematch of a bitter election battle
fought in 1974 by Eileen Palmer and Bill
Clifford should be one of the highlights of the
15776 elections in Goderich, Feltner and
Clifford will be locked in battle for the
politics of reeve.
