Mr. an
50th wed
Mrs. Yor,,: mark
It was on October 21, 1933 that Loretta
Flick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Flick
of Colborne Township and William E.
Young, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E.
Young, also of Colborne Township, were
united in marriage at the Shakespeare
Evangelical Parsonage with the bride's
uncle, William A. Durst, officiating. The
couple was attended by the bride's sister,
Edith Flick and the groom's brother,
Worthy Young.
After honeymooning in Detroit and
Toronto, they took up residence in Goderich
and still reside there.
Mr. Young was a sailor and after sailing
for many years, he retired in 1959.
Mr. and Mrs. Young have two daughters,
Carole Daer of Auburn and Joan Brown of
Hamilton.; six grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
On October 21, 1983, they celebrated their
golden wedding anniversary commencing
with a delicious family dinner at the
Goderich Legion Hall catered to by the
Legion Ladies' Auxiliary. The party,
numbering 25, then returned to Mr. and Mrs.
Young's home on Cameron Street where
they were joined by relatives, friends and
neighbours who joined the celebration. They
received many lovely gifts, floral
arrangements ( including one from the Town
of Goderich), and a plaque from Premier
William Davis. They also received a
congratulatory message from MPP Jack
Riddell and many other cards of
congratulations.
Mr. and Mrs. Young have enjoyed the past
50 years and look forward to many more
years together.
Country Fair
The Christmas Country Fair held last
week continued its high standard of crafts
and displays even though it was under
different leadership. The Blue Water
Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star no. 284
sponsored the event this year. The displays
showed considerable work and many hours
of effort. Congratulations to the ladies and
men. They did a fine job and everyone looks
forward to more new ideas in 1984.

Colborne Central School senior girls and
boys won pennants in the recent cross
country meet. Individual winners were:
senior boys -Wayne Nivins; senior girls -
Tammy Talbot; midget boys -Shawn Talbot;
and midget girls -Jill Lamb.
October 28 will be P.A. Day. Also mark
your calendars for Monday, November 7
when the school pictures will be taken. On
November 11, a Remembrance Day
assembly will be held at the school at 10:45
a.m. Parents, family members and friends
are invited to attend.
The students of Grades 7 and 8 are taking
orders for cheese until November 1. Cheese
will be in 2' 2 pound blocks and the varieties
are mild, medium, marble, colby, moz-
zarella, curds, Hobarti and Gouda. Price of
curds is $3 per pound and the other kinds are
all $8 per block. The profits will be used for
student activities.
The students will be selling hot dogs and
donuts every Friday, starting November 4
at the school noon hour. This proved to be
very satisfactory last year, giving a
changed menu for the students every Friday
instead of taking lunches and also giving the
parents a rest.
This Monday, October 31, the students'
council is planning a Halloween party in the
afternoon.
