HENRY MITCHELL
Joseph Henry Mitchell of Huronview,
formerly. of Goderich, died in Huronview on
Thursday, October 20 at the age of 81.
He was born in Bethnel Green, London,
England on June 9, 1902 to Joseph and
Lillian ( Lynn) Mitchell.
The late Mr. Mitchell retired in August of
1969 as a mechanic with the Canada Car
Company of Thunder Bay. He was one of the
organizers and former president of West
Fort William Credit Union and he was a
member of St. George's Anglican Church,
Goderich.
He is survived by his wife, the forrner
Rosina Calnek of Granville, Nova Scotia.
A funeral and committal service were
held at McCallum Funeral Home in
Goderich on Saturday, October 22 at 2 p.m.
The Reverend Robert J. Crocker of St.
George's Anglican Church officiated.
Interment was in the Maitland Cemetery,
Goderich.
ERNEST IIOLZHAUSEN
Ernest Holzhausen of 94 St. Patrick
Street, Goderich, died in Alexandra Marine
and General Hospital on Sunday, October 16
at the age of 87.
He was born in Colborne Township on May
19, 1896 to Mickel and Caroline (Kurschiush)
Holzhausen.
The late Mr. Holzhausen farmed for many
years in Colborne Township and upon
retirement worked for several years at the
Maitland Cemetery.
He was a member of Canadian Foresters
Court Benrniller no. 86 and an adherent of
the First Baptist Church in Goderich.
He married Luretha McKnight in
August 3 1972 She survives

He was predeceased by one brother and
three sisters.
A funeral service was held at Stiles
Funeral Home in Goderich on Wednesday,
October 19 at 2 p.m. The Reverend Gilbert
Kidd of the First Baptist Church officiated.
Pallbearers were Bill Lawton, Don Lamb,
Bob Jewell, Doug McNeil, Bill Robertson
and Leonard Fisher.
The Canadian Foresters Court, Benmiller
no. 86 held a service at the funeral home on
Tuesday, October 18.
Interment was in Colborne Cemetery.

REYNOLDS
PHILLIPS
John Harry Reynolds Phillips of
Huronview died in Huronview on Wed-
nesday, October 12 at the age of 70.
He was born in Edmonton, Alberta on
December 28, 1912 to George Reynolds and
Mary (Lightfoot) Reynolds.
He was retired as a janitor. He was an
associate member of Royal Canadian
Legion Branch 109 and a member of North
Street United Church, Goderich.
He is survived _by one uncle, Dave Elliott
and one cousin, Mrs. Charles (Lily) Hart.
A funeral service was held at Stiles
Funeral Home in Goderich on Saturday,
October 15 at 2 p.m. The Reverend Robert 0.
Ball of North Street United Church and the
Reverend R. Norman Pick of Clinton of-
ficiated.
Pallbearers were Roy Mugford, Eric
Sperian, William Melick, Keith Cutt,
Goderich on Everett Mcllwain and Warner McIntyre.

Enterprising Seniors meet
The Enterprising Seniors met in the Com
munity Centre in Holmesville with John
Semple in the chair.
Mrs. Carol Wammes was called upon to
speak on P.E.P, the Playground Equipment
Project for the Holmesville school
playground. Also present were Mrs. Sparl-
ing and Mrs. Kalbfleisch spoke on the card
of life and forms will be sent to be filled out.
Seniors please note November 3 they are
to go to afternoon meetings.
The Goderich Township W.I. will hold a
Variety Night on Nov. 10. The Goderich
Township W.I. card parties are to start Nov.
24, following one to be December 8.
Sunday morning the lower Sunday School
class sang as Nancy Hearn accompanied
them on the guitar.
Mr. and Mrs. Sellars joined the church by
transfer of membership.
Rev. Bechtel told the children a story
before they went to their Sunday School
classes. Offering was received by Bill Nor-
man and Don Harris.
October 30 the Anniversary Service will
be held at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Oestreicher
as the guest speaker. New stained glass win-
dows will be dedicated.
Nov. 1 Men's Club will meet at Wesley
Willis Church. November 2 the bazaar will
be held at 2:30 p.m. in the Goderich

Stag and doe held for local coupl
A successful Stag and Doe was held
Saturday night for Vicki Park and Ted
Henry.
Jim and Margaret Errington visited with a
friend of Margaret. Mrs. Klaas Barendregt
at Union on Sunday. They attended church
service at Port Stanley where Reverend Karl
Sievert is pastor.
Sympathy is extended to the families of
the late Ethel (Brown) Cunningham, who
died in London on Wednesday in her 85th
year.
Sympathy is also extended to the families
of Elsie Haney of Pinecrest Manor, Luck -
now, who passed away on Thursday,
October 20 in her 99th year. Dorothy
Errington is a granddaughter.
The fifth meeting of the
Holmesville 1 4-H club, the Budding
Beauties, was held on Oct. 17 8t Lana Jones'
with all members present.
Names were put into a hat and the lucky
winner of a shampoo, blow dry and curling
iron set was won by Jaqua Lobb. Ramona
Humphries explained all the steps as she us-
ed Jaqua as a model. Ramona also explain-
ed the lesson "Hair Care" in our members
manual. Everyone enjoyed the
demonstration and learned many new tips.
Linda and Lana served snacks.
The sixth meeting was held Oct. 24 at
Shannon Preszcator's. The meeting was
opened with the 4-H pledge. Leaders Linda
Mustard and Phyllis Coulter explained our
lesson "Consumer Rights and Respon-
sibilities". Everyone participated in either
a manicure or foot soak. Everyone had
fun trying out the different nail polish

balloons during Co-op Week

On Tuesday, October 18, the school
participated in the regional cross country
meet. The top people from the school were:
midget girls, Rachel Fairbairn, third; Joyce
McWhinney, eighth; midget boys, Jeff
Storey, second, Warren Andrew, third,
Adrian Rau. fifth; junior girls, Julie
Pentland, first; junior goys, Jeff Ireland,
fifth; intermediate girls, Jean McWhinney,
first; Debbie Rintoul-Second; Karen Binger,
fifth; intermediate boys, Kirk Newhook,
twelfth; senior girls, Cathy Se -lent,
fourth; senior boys, Joey Carmichael,
fifteenth. The teams which received pen-
nants were midget boys and junior girls.
Julie Pentland and Jean McWhinney receiv-
ed medallions for placing fourth.
Junior choir practice started on Tuesday

Has anyone found a balloon lately? If you
do, see if there is a name and address inside
it and notify that person. The week October
16 - 22 was Co-op Week and the Co-op store
in Lucknow supplied balloons for all the
students at Brookside. Mr. Dave Dawson,
from the Lucknow Co-op, brought a helium
tank to school and filled the balloons after
each child had put a paper with his name and
address inside it. The students took the
balloons outside at 12.15 p.m. and released
them all at once to sail westward on the brisk
breeze. Mr. Dawson came back on Friday
with balloons for kindergarten class 2.
On Monday, October 17 the grade 8 class
accompanied by Mr. Cameron and Mr.
Jewitt went on a field trip to the Goderich
Museum and to Dunlop's tomb.
