The third session of a four-part series on
aging will be held today ( Wednesday) from
1:30-3:30 p.m. in the lounge on third floor
west at Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital. The topic will be "Physio and
Occupational Therapy for the Elderly".
Speakers will be Allison Hollingworth,
physiotherapist and Mike Moriarity, oc-
cupational therapist.
The final session of the series will be held
Thursday, October 27 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in
the auxiliary room at the hospital. The topic
will be "How to Create a Non Person: A
Look at the Effects of Care on the Elderly."
The speaker will be Elaine Baillie, ac-
tivation consultant with the Ministry of
Health.
These sessions are open to everyone.
Refreshments will be provided. For more

Hospital.

75 YEARS AGO
The 33rd Regiment Band have completed
arrangements for a grand promenade
concert in the West Street rink on Thursday
evening. After the program is over, there
will be a social hop. The admission fee is 10
cents.
Miss Margaret Carlyle, Provincial
inspector of female labor in factories and
shops, was in town yesterday visiting fac-
tories and laundries and enquiring about
conditions here. She says Goderich com-
pares favorably with the best of larger
places where female labor is employed.
Lights were started on Monday evening,
dispelling the darkness of the previous
week. the rew machinery being all in
position. The new dynamo is able to keep
5,000 lights going and replaces two dynamos
of 1.000 Lights each.
50 YEARS AGO
Part of the roof of the CNR roundhouse
was blown off in a violent wind, rain and
electrical storm which lashed Goderich and
district on the weekend. Thomas Jewell,
near Loyal, and Hugh Shields, of Ashfield
Township, reported cows killed by lightning.
The population of Goderich is 4,383, ac-
cording to the latest figures released by
Assessor J.H. Robertson.
Record catches of perch are being
reported by commercial fishermen. On
Tuesday, Graham Brothers' tug brought in
a ton caught four miles out in 15 fathoms of
water. At prices up to five cents a pound,
this is considered profitable business.
25 YEARS AGO
Cost estimates were presented to town
council Friday by the special committee
which is studying the proposed exchange of
town hall and post office properties.
A resident of Stanley Township, William
G. Hanly, 30, of R.R. 5 Clinton, has been
recommended by the warden's committee
for appointment as deputy clerk -treasurer
of Huron County with duties to commence on
January 1, 1959.
Contractors for the building of the new
Woolworth store at Goderich started work
Monday.
I)issastisfaction with the Canada Tem-
perance Act was expressed by some
members of town council Friday.
5YEARS AGO
After three years of study and develop-
ment, the new senior citizens housing
proposed for the sotithwest corner of West
and Waterloo Streets is one step closer to
reality. At Monday evening's town council
meeting, an artist's drawing of the proposed
building was unveiled and gained the im-
mediate approval of all council members.
The Huron County Board of Education
ratified a one-year contract Monday night,
awarding its 365 teachers and principals a
total wage increase for 1978-79 of 8.97 per
cent. Teachers will now earn a minimum of
$10,504 to a maximum of $26,730. An average
teacher's salary will be $20.811.
Goderich clinched the WOAA Midget Girls
ball r hampionship Sunday, edging Kirkton
3-1 in a thrilling finish.
