Juveniles defeat Belrnont on home ice
The Goderich Signal Stars defeated
Belmont, 6-2 in juvenile hockey action
Sunday at the Goderich arena.
Goderich dominated the action from the
opening face-off, taking the play to
Belmont's end and in 51 seconds of play,
took a one goal lead on a shot by Dave
Gallow. Belmont then started to show that
they did have some life in them, making for
fast end to end action, with each goalie
coming up with good saves. However, it was
Keith Hallam of Goderich who netted the
next goal to give his team a 2-0 lead.
Jeff Denorn ne was tested with a few hard
shots while he was in the Goderich net, but
as soon as his forwards got the puck on their
sticks, it was down to the other end of the ice
where Hallam set up Jeff Sargent for the
third goal of the game.
Belmont managed to get on the
Scoreboard before the period was over, but
minutes later, Goderich reclaimed their
three goal lead when Gallow put the puck
behind their opponents goalie.
Only one goal was scored in the second
period as the Belmont defence held back the
Goderich attack so their offence could
concentrate on scoring. Belmont's goal
came late in the period, but narrowed the
lead to two.
The third period saw Goderich's Gallow
score his third goal of the game and pick up
an assist on the final goal that was scored by
Tim Chisholm.

Bantams loss
Last Wednesday evening, the Goderich
Bantams travelled to Kincardine for an ex-
hibition hockey game. It was a fast skating,
close .checking contest which Kincardine
won 3-2.
Mark Burbine opened the scoring for
Goderich with a nice wrist shot that caught
the lower corner of the Kincardine net. The
score remained at 1.0 until after the third
period began, at which time the Kincardine
team scored three quick goals. Before the
period ended, Ian MacKinnon scored
Goderich's second goal on a shot from the
point.
On Sunday evening, the team played their
first scheduled game for this season, in
Strathroy. Goderich lost by a respectable
score of 3-2.
Scott Garrow opened the scoring for
Goderich on a pass from Byron Bowman at
the 5:53 mark of the first period. However,
Strathroy soon tied the score while Goderich
was short-handed.
In the second period, Strathroy made it 3-
1; their second goal coming while Goderich
had a penalty, and the third being a screen-
ed shot that evaded goalie Greg Townsend.
Greg had .just replaced Jay Williamson in
net because Jay was injured as a result of
blocking a hard shot while down on his
knees. The puck seemed to catch Jay on an
exposed portion of his leg just above the
knee.
Goderich added their second goal in the
third period whle refusing to yield anymore
to Strathroy. Dave Duncan scored, assisted
by Scott Garrow and Mark Burbine.
Coach Dave Wilkinson pulled the goalie in
favor of another forward, in the dying
minutes but the team was serving a penalty
and seemed to just run out of time.
All in all, the teams were evenly matched
and I'm sure our boys will win their fair
share in succeeding games.
Penalties were: Goderich 7, Strathroy 6.
The Bantams play their next game
Wednesday, October I9 in Exeter and their
first HOME game this coming Saturday, Oc-
tober 22 at 6:30 p.m. Minor hockey games
begin shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturdays pro-
gressing through from Novice, Atom, Pee
Wee, Bantam, and Midget which ends
around 10 p.m. — a lot of entertainment for
$1. Juveniles play Sundays from 2:30-4:30
