in November to discuss the recon.

Alan Dupuis, chief of Fire Advisory
Services for the Ministry of the Solicitor
General, informed council by letter that a
Municipal Fire Protection Survey for the
town has been completed. The recom-
mendations contained in the report will be
discussed with council by a district ad-
visor.
The fire protection survey, requested by
council, examines and is designed to
improve the fire prevention and fire
protection facilities of the municipality.

Dennis and Nellie Quinlan (nee Knoop ) are
very pleased to announce the safe arrival of
their first child, Nicole Catherine, weighing
10 lbs. 21 oz. on October 13th, 1983 at Alex-
andra Marine and General Hospital,
Goderich. Proud grandparents are Mrs.
Dorothy Quinlan of Brantford and Mr. and
Mrs. Anthony Knoop of Goderich. We also
would like to thank Dr. Donald Neal and all
nurses on second floor east for all their help.

Martin and Elly are happy to announce the
safe arrival of their new son, Christopher
Anthony, on Thursday, October 13, 1983 at
Alexandra Hospital, Goderich, weighing 8
lbs. 31 oz. A new brother for Michelle and
Colin. Proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Van Den Berg, Forest and Mr. and
Mrs. Marinus Van Den Eisen of The
Netherlands.

Ken and Debbie are happy to announce the
birth of their daughter, Amber Daniell, born
September 23, 1983, weighing 8 lbs. 10 oz., at
Prince George, B.C. A little sister for David

hall regarding the police communications
system handling fire calls.
The Municipal Airport Committee will
meet this evening, Wednesday, October 19
at 7:30 p.m. at the airport.

will meet Thursday, October 20 at 8 a.m. in
town hall.
The Tourist Committee will meet Thur-
sday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. in town hall.

Bob Cornish took the oath of office in front of fellow councillors
prior to Monday's council meeting. Cornish was selected to fill the
council seat left vacant by former councillor EdGiesbreeht who
resigned hi September for personal reasons. Cornish was selected

Boy Scouts, cubs prepare for apple day
The Third and Foutth Goderich Boy
Scout Committees were granted ap-
proval from town council to hold a Boy
Scouts of Canada Annual Apple Day the
evening of Friday, October 28 and
Saturday, October 29. Both cubs and
scouts will be out in full force selling
apples on those dates. Support the
scouting movement and buy an apple or
make a donation.
Need funds
At its October 3 meeting, council
received a request for financial
assistance from the Goderich Minor
Hockey Association. Registration has
been increased to $90 per player but ice
time will cost approximately $$22,500 this
season. Other expenses, for timekepers,
referees, insurance and equipment, will
total over $7,000 for the current season.
The request was referred to recreation
board.

The Royal Canadian Legion, Goderich
Branch 109 will conduct its annual Poppy
canvass on Sunday, November 6. Legion
members will be much in evidence that
day selling poppies door to door.

NEWS
More kids.
The Goderich Municipal Day Nursery
currently has 109 children registered and
another eight children are on a waiting
list. The maximum number of children
allowed in a class at one time is 26 and
the committee will investigate the
possibility of having the approved
capacity increased.
Last time
The annual Remembrance Service
held in honor of the sailors who died in
the famous storm of 1913 may be slowly.
dying. Councillor John Doherty reported
to council that the annual service at the
Maitland Cemetery will be held at 3 p.m.
November 11. But, due to an apparent
lack of interest in the memorial service,
it may be the last year, he told council.
Openings
The tov6n of Goderich will host two
official openings in the near future. The
recently constructed terminal building at
the municipal airport will be unveiled to
the public Tuesday, November 1 and the
opening of the pollution control plant has
been scheduled for Thursday, November
3. More details on the openings will ap-
pear next week.
AMO director
Goderich Mayor Eileen Palmer has
again been selected to the board of
directors of the Association of
Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) for 1983-
84. AMO president, Marlene Catterall,
welcomed mayor Palmer to the board.
Check heads
Town council has asked the Huron
County Medical Officer of Health to in=
elude the Municipal Day Nursery on its
list of routine inspections for head lice.
Two cases of lice were recently reported
at the school. The Huron County Health
Unit routinely inspects area schools.
