Seems I'm always in a hurry. When I start something-- especial- ly in the house — L want to rush it right through — so meals come under that category and that's when I let little things like the ties on bread wrappers and such try my patience. Some of those little plastic things aren't too hard to remove but you fiddle and twist to put them back on. One day I threw the thing into the garbage pail and picked up the spring clothespin that happened to be handy and shoved the bread into the fridge. I forgot about the episode until I needed the bread again and was surprised how easy and large the clip happened to be. Later I clipped the frozen vegetable bags and other things and a short time later I realized I LIKED the clips very much. I have since bought a new box of clip pins and use them all the time instead of fiddly diddly little ones. You won't believe the number of uses you will find for them and when you are hurrying, you will catch yourself saying, "I'll be darned", when they slip on and off so easily and hold the folds so beautifully. Now, those little plastic ties are liked and are useful to the children at the Queen Elizabeth School. They would be pleased if you would save them and the Campbell Soup labels, Allen's apple juice labels, 7.EHR'S cash register tapes — I forget what other items .are useful for them — but throw them all into a bag and sometime drop, them off at the school or call Betty Reid at 9525 and she will pick them up! So, how about THAT for a switch-a-roo? a snaparoo? People have worked with these clip -clothespins for so many nice things, like holding your recipe card or telephone messages you can't use under a magnet on the fridge door and a lot of creative things you find in gift shops — but , I hadn't heard of them in the freezer or for anything too big for a paper clip. I have several metal clips — but when 1 need them they are either busy or hiding, so there you are! I hope most of you have read the leaflet for saved it 1 that came with last week's paper on leisure activities from the Rec. Department. For one thing, on "Pioneer Crafts", they are having three sessions on Saturdays, October 15, 29 and November 12 at our museum on North Street. Many crafts are slipping into oblivion because the elderly haven't a chance tO teach the younger people their favorite old craft. The young people are too busy — not interested — so it is up to the parents and older folks to take up the craft and somewhere along the line teach someone younger. There are so many people, their children grown and away from home, who now have the time to do some of these things they have "always wanted to do". HEY are the ones who should get in there and TRY these things. You are NEVER too old to THY! Believe me! I've learned so much about so many things in the Last 15 or 20 years — I'm amazed. There are many other classes besides: keep -fit and art, so look through your booklet from the Rec. Department and THINK about it — Do something about it. Don't forget Nile U.C. turkey supper October 19, seat at 5 or 7 p.m. and the Crafts Fair about the same time. For the antique buffs, you have an opening in Toronto Harbourfront October 9 — if you like to drive that far. A Fashion Show will be held at the Livery on South Street near The Square Oc- tober 5. A Variety Show is being held tonight at McKay Cen- tre at 8 p.m. Victoria St. U.C. rummage sale is October 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. an :,atur- day from 10 - 12. Their November Fair is November 16. Mark your calendar with these dates and with this week's dates in the Bulletin Board. Be serious about taking up a craft or exercise, you'll be glad you started.
