Centre .Canafla. Radio Shack has l .tet•up
aa operation: that will not oflly, 94
computers, but teach people how to use
them, •
Eric Carman of Radio Shack has'
become a pioneer in that he has become
the first independent dealer to sell a•
complete computer service from corn-
puters and software to tailored
programs. lie is the first dealer in
Canada to offer the complete and
separate computer centre.
"We. are the first. We made .the
proposal to Radio Shack," he said. " We
want to offer complete and personalized
service."
The new computer centre is located on
Kingston Street above Carman's
photography shop.
According to Ken Vingoe, who will be
looking after the computers and in-
structing the classes so that he can get
his ` PHD in Computer Science at the,
University of Waterloo, theyare going to
use a new concept in teachinginterested
people how to use, and understand, the
computers.
"The classes will be geared to the
individual with the classes noe running,,
more than two hours at a time," Vingoe
explained.
The computer courses will be good for
those who need hands on experience for
correspondence courses they are taking
from the University of Waterloo, because
the computer will have a direct line to a
computer at the University.
The classes will start on October 1 and
are offered at all levels, with the cost and
the length varying with the course.
The computer centre has a variety of
programs, ranging from educational
programs, such as math, to programs
that help businesses run more efficiently.
In total, the centre has close to .400
programs.
The classes will be taught on the Model
4 computer, but instruction will include
Commodore programming, and the
centre will be carrying Commodore
software as well.
Starting on October 3, a Kid's Day will
be held every Saturday where the kids
have competitions with the winners
receiving a trophy and coupon for money
off of computer products. Two weeks
before Christmas the final competitions
will be held with the winner receiving a
color computer.
Everyone must concede to the fact that
we are living a computerized age and
familiarity with the machinery now
available is a must. Vingoe suggests that ,
computers are not toys, but necessities.
"It's the computer age and soon
businesses will have to be on computers
because their suppliers are already. on A
some type of system," he said. "The
market potential exists in the area and
we offer software and programs."
Computers are not just toys, but have
practical and unversal applications for
the farmer, homeowner,and
businessman. Computers can,be used in
the home for budget management
programs and are invaluable to the
farmer by providing current weather and
market price information.
Agri -food sector stressed
Ontario residents are in-
vited to participate in Agri -
Food Week, a celebration of
the importance of
agriculture to society and
the economy. Agri -Food
Week begins Monday, Oc-
tober 3 and runs to
Thanksgiving Monday, Oc-
tober 10.
"Many people, both con-
sumer and farmer alike,
don't realize the scope and
importance of the agri-food
sector," Ralph Barrie, presi-
dent of the Ontario Federa-
tion of Agriculture said.
"Agri -Food Week is design-
ed to show, in a fun and
family-oriented way, just
how important the agri-food
sector is to all of us."
Ontario's agriculture in-
dustry injects $11 billion into
the provincial economy
every year and employs 20
percent 01 the provincial
work force. The basis for this
industry are the 85,000
farmers who work the land
in Ontario.
This is the second year for
Agri -Food Week, held an-
nually in the week preceding
Thanksgiving.
"It's fitting to hold this
celebration during, harvest
time," Barrie said. "It's the
time of the year when
everyone Becomes aware of
the wide variety of high
quality food the Ontario

Events for Agri -Food
Week, ranging from farm
tours to library displays, are
being staged across the pro-
vince. These events, are be-
ing co-ordinated by county
federations of agriculture
and the ministry of
agriculture and food.

FOR
ADOPTION
A good-natured dog who craves attention.
"It" is a mongrel that loves people, but
because the kids have grown and left
home and we are away a lot, the dog is
mostly alone. We think it only fair to try
and find a home where he will get
attention. Not a watchdog as he likes
people too much. Eight -years -old and has all
the usual shots.
Ideal for either older people or someone
with school age children. Phone 524-9106
after 7 p.m.
