Their son, Ed, a student at Western University and their daughter, Heather, a student at Redeemer College, Hamilton, were present and added to the enjoyment of the evening. George and Antonia ap- preciated the response of their relatives and friends, making this a special oc- cassion which they shall long remember. Friends who Ore unable to be present extend an- niversary congratulations. WI Tiger Dunlop Women's Institute meeting was held in Colborne Township Hall Thursday, September 22 at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. R. Buchanan, president, opened the meeting, welcoming all. Guests were present from Auburn, Goderich and Goderich Township Women's Institutes. Mrs. Buchanan thanked Mrs. Cora Sherwood who had presided in her absence and introduced her' sister-in-law, Mrs. Ted Pope of Smith Falls, who with her husband, plans to move to Goderich. Minutes of the last meeting were read by the assistant secretary, Mrs. Dorothy Feagan and members an- swered the roll call, "Name a book you have read or a play you have seen." In the correspondence, members were informed of the Women's Institute Huron County Rally to be held in Bluevale October 3; and the 69th annual London area convention to be held in St. Marys October 27 and 28. A thank you was read from Mrs. Buchanan. An in- vitation was received from Goderich Township Institute to attend their meeting November 14. Helen Riehl and Sharon Edward have taken over the 4-H leadership for the project "Looking Great and Feeling Great" and are having the meetings in their homes. There was discussion regarding having the coffee pot repaired and it was moved by Mary Brindley and seconded by Mrs.. E Bogie that members look into this matter and try and have it repaired. A resolution on recycling pop cans, to be presented at the area convention, was read and discussed. Cora Sherwood then in- troduced the guest speaker, Mary Bere, a school teacher at Brookside School, who spoke on her holiday trip to Papua,. New Guinea, Australia and other points of inerest, and showed slides. The part she visited was especially interesting as her son-in-law teaches in one of the schools. It is moun- tainous, with many different languages and the ,com- munication is poor. There are no railways and few good roads. Their principle export is coffee. People there live dif- ferently than people in Canada, but they are con- tent. They have hospitals, schools and the three main churches are Catholic, Lutheran and United. The meeting closed with the Queen and the Grace after which all enjoyed a social " half hour with lunch served by the committee of Anne Montgomery, Mrs. M. Montgomery and Mrs. R. Brock. Lillian Leatherland won a potted plant for a birthday gift ` and many received garden vegetables from the large basket, if they had a winning cup. Mrs. Morley of the Goderich Institute, Eleanor Bradnock of Auburn and Alice Porter of Goderich Township Institute thanked Tiger . Dunlop Institute members for a special evening. It waa announced that rug braiding workshops will be held on October 18 and October 25 in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Wingham from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or in Hensall United Church on October 19 and October 26. 4-H The second and third regular meetings of the Tiger Dunlop 4-H group, "Confident Consumers" was held at the home of Sharon Edward on September 24. The President, Kay Edward, opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge and minutes from the last meeting which were adopted by all. The roll call, "com- plete the statement as it applies to you, fitness is..." was read. Following this, members did a series of exercises lead by Kim Edward since this meeting was about body energizers. Members picked the title page from the entries with Judy Walter being the winner. Is exercise enough? This was discussed by the members, and the answer was no, you need a balanced diet as well. A game called "Stand up for Nutrition" was played balancing the energy intake and output. Also discussed were home activities, including exec: cising and smart shopping. Social News The community is pleased to report that Mrs. Tennis Kolkman of R.R.6 Goderich has returned home after having surgery in University Hospital, London and is convalescing favourably. Congratulations to Brenda Janet Pollock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Pollock, R.R.5 Goderich and Jacques Martel, son of Mrs. Jeanine Rogers, Niagra Falls, whose. wedding was Saturday, September 24 at North Street United Church. Don't forget the Colborne Township Recreation Committee meeting to be held October 3 in Colborne Township Hall at 8 p.m. Mrs. Marguerite Horton has returned home after several weeks in Goderich hospital. Her many friends wish her a speedy recovery. Jean Chisholm of Toronto has been visiting her sister, Theresa Fulford for the past two weeks and has now returned home. Softball The PeeWee boys held their softball tournament in Goderich last Saturday with the Colborne PeeWees winning the "B" Cham- pionship. (photo by Anne Narejko) Clubs start project The first meeting of the Holmesville I 4-H Club. "Looking Great, Feeling Great" was held on Sept. 19 at Linda Mustard's home. Members opened the meeting with the 9-H pledge. There were 10 members pre- sent. They decided to call the club the "Budding Beauties". Our election of of- ficers are as follows: Presi- dent, Lisa Forbes; Vice President, Nina Potter; Treasurer, Shelly Pearson; Secretary, Lana Jones; Press Reporter, Jodi Mustard. Leaders Phyllis Coulter and Linda Mustard discuss- ed the topic "What in- fluences us when buying pro- ducts?" On Sept. 17, the Holmesville II 4-H Club met at Beverly Van Ninhuys. It was the first meeting of the 4-H Homemakers Club. They are starting the new project HOLM ESVI LLE NEWS Blanche Deeves, 482-3383 called "Looking Great! Feeling Great!" They open- ed the meeting with the 4-H pledge. Then members received books and elected officers. While . there the swit- cher Ken Livermore, formerly of Clinton visited with the group. Appearing on the show were Wilf Carter nearing his 80th birthday, Laura Vinson 'of Edmonton and Tanya Tucker, Oso the Tommy Scott Medicine Show. Everyone enjoyed the trip. Congratulations to Don and Bonnie Lockwood and Sean on the safe arrival of another son at St. Joseph's Hospital, London. The Quilting Committee of the Senior Citizens have started work on their autograph quilt which is their project for the 1985 ses- quicentennial; year in the Township. The committee has set Dec. 31, 1983 as the deadline for having names handed in. Any Goderich Township resi- dent or former Goderich Township resident and their families can have their names of this quilt. Hazel McCreath is convener of this committee and can be con- tacted for further informa- tion. Pro Lifers meet the Goderich u•,d District Pro Life Goup held it monthly meeting in Goderich on Sept. 12. Case Brand opening the meeting with prayer. Dan Murphy reported on a convention he attended of the Canadian Bar Association in Quebec. Muria! Murphy reported on the modern birth technology seminar she attended while at the same convention.
