Elevators first The Goderich Elevators Women's Fastball team has finished off this year with a very good season record. Not only did they place first in their league, they also captured the playoff championship. Finishing in first place in the league with only one lose in regular action, they continued their winning streak by winning all their games against Benmiller in the semi-finals. Advancing to face Blyth in the finals, the Elevators defeated their opponents three games straight to take the playoff championship. The games were very close with the first game being decided on a throwing error, giving the Elevators the 5-4 victory. The second game saw Blyth take the lead in the first half of the game, but the Elevators rallied back and won by a score of 11-8. The final gamecould have gone either way, but good fielding efforts left 16 Blyth players on base, and gave the Elevators a 7-4 victory. Blyth scored three runs in their half of the first inning, but Goderich fought back in their half, scoring four runs. They later added a rim in the second inning and two in the sixth. Blyth added one in the seventh after a good rally, but finished the game with bases loaded. Top batters were Loretta Ayotte who went two for three, hitting a triple and a homerun for three RBI's. Louise Brown was equally strong at the plate, going three for four with a triple, double and single for two RBI's. It took three Sarnia St. Clair Colts to pull down this on GDCI Viking as the Viking offense exploded to make their first exhibition game a 34-0 victory. Contest hopefuls should give serious consideration to entering a "live release" fish because the prizes are identical to the "keep" class, with only a handful of en- trants to date.
