Allow Christ to become your Saviour BY THE REVEREND AUSTIN GEDCKE, BETHEL PENTECOSTAL ASSEMBLY Out of the sadism and hor- ror of the Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz came a story of amazing compas- sion and courage: A Fran- W,J, Denomme FLOWER SHOP Phone 524-8132 DAY OR NIGHT Agent for 24 hr. FILM DEVELOPING MINISTER'S STUDY ciscan priest voluntarily laid down his life for another man. On February 17, 1941, the priest, Maximllllan Kolbe, was imprisoned by the Gestapo and soon after brought to Auschwitz. There it was the rule that 10 inno- cent prisoners must die whenever someone escaped. Since an escape was noted during the roll call at the end of July, 1941, it was decreed that 10 of Kolbe's group had to die. Death was to be by starva- tion. Among the 10 chosen at random, one cried out, "Have mercy! I have a wife and children!" Hearing this plea, Kolbe stepped forward and offered to replace the fluoTE OF THE WEEK The fruits of the tree of man have ever been goodly deeds and a praiseworthy character. 66 » For Information Write P.O. And so the priest went with the others into the cell of death. He endured starvation for two weeks; then they gave him a deadly injection to end the misery. He died on August 14. Kolbe was dead, but the one for whom he sacrificed himself still lives. No doubt each August 14 has been a time of deep gratitude toward the one who died for him. How could he fprget Kolbe's compassion? Sacrifices like that are rare. The Bible reminds us in Romans chapter 5... "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." This is the heart of .the gospel. Another died that we might live. And in this we see God's enormous love. The individual who looks to the Saviour and says, "He died for me", receives forgiveness, full and free and everlasting. Yes, He became your Substitute, He died so that you might live eternally. I challenge you to- day to invite Christ into your heart. Mrs. E. Robinson took over for the business. The meeting in North Street Church in October and the wedding dinner were discussed. A social time followed, with Mrs. T. Armstrong assisting the hostess.
