Goderich harbor
expansion dropped
from program
The Town of Goderich harbour expansion has been
removed from the federal government's Special
Recovery Capital Projects Program, according to a
recent letter from Federal Minister Eugene Whelan
to Goderich town council.
The expansion was only tentatively on the program
list, which includes many projects, but has been
dropped to the regular budget of the regional office
because of the anticipated high cost, estimated at $15
million. Further estimates will be submitted to the
regular budget for future use.
During a meeting on September 12, town council
recommended that a Ports Advisory Committee
composed of Mayor Eileen Palmer, Bob Allen, Don
Edwards, George Parsons and W.J. McIntyre be set
up. However, the committee will not be formed until
an Order -In -Council from the federal government has
been received.

LETTERS
Dear Editor,
We would like your
readers toltnow thata Flood
Plain Review Committee
has been appointed by the
Ministry of Natural
Resources to hold public
meetings throughout the pro-
vince for public input as to
whether there should be a
Flood Plain Management
Program in Ontario •in-
,stituted by the province, or
should individuals have ,the
right to build wherever they
wish at their own risk.
Property owners in your
area faced with problems
when they attempted to build
on their land, or who have
found their property has
dropped in value, or who
foUnd it difficult to raise
mortgage money, or who
have run into other problems
because of land use regula-
tions imposed upon their pro-
perty by the local Con-
servation Authority or the
Ministry of Natural
Resources, are strongly urg-
ed to check with their local
M.P.P. to find out when the
Flood Plain Review Commit-
tee will meet in their area in
the months of September
and October of this year.
Due in part to representa-
tions made by our group on
behalf of property owners in
the region of Niagara and
other parts of the province,
this committee was set up to
meet with members of the
public, municipalities,
developers, real estate
organizations, and other in-
terested parties to deter-
mine what changes should
be made in carrying out the
flood plain management pro-
gram of the Province of On-
tario. Property owners are
therefore urged to present
their case to this conunittee
-when it meets in their locali-
ty.
