conducted the service.
Slow Pitch
In the slo pitch semi-finals
Monday, there was an ex-
citing game under the lights
at Dungannon, the Port
Albert Pirates edging the
strong Kinloss team 23 - 21.
Wednesday under the
lights at Lucknow in a real
see -saw battle, the Port
Albert Pirates were the win-
ners by one run, Pirates 10 -
Kinloss 9.
Beating the Kinloss team
twice last week put the
Pirates in the finals with
their neighbour to the north,
Kingsbridge.
It was a beautiful Sunday
afternoon as the Kingsbridge
team and the Pirates took to
the field, in the best three out
of five. Kingsbridge is known
for fielding a strong team
and experienced little dif-
ficulty in beating the Pirates
7-3.
The next game will be at
Dungannon under the lights
Monday. Third game will be
in Dungannon under the
lights Wednesday. If a fourth
game is necessary, it will be
played next Sunday after-
noon in Port Albert.
'Birds
The village crow, which
was brought to the village by
Roy Bellinger several weeks
ago due to falling out of the
nest in. Goderich, had the
misfortune to injure its right
leg. However, it seems to be
improving and seems quite
active in a certain area of
the village. It appears to be
very fond of Roy Bellinger
who brought it home when it
was quite young. Other
crows will have nothing to do
with it and occasionally you
will see birds chase it. It flies
around in a small area and
occasionally you will see it
looking down a neighbour's
chimney. The other night
while talking to Roy Bell-
inger, it landed on his head.
It is definitely very fond of
Roy.
Robins have been gone for
some time now. The King
Birds are not being observed
this past week. The pro-
gnosticators say it's an omen
of a cold autumn.
Sunday afternoon, a flock
of ducks was observed flying
west over the village at 5:30
p.m.
Roy Bellinger of Port
Albert, a Conservation Of-
ficer for the Wingham
District, with Mike Malhiot,
District Biologist from the
Wingham office, Friday
evening attended a dinner
meeting of Ducks Unlimited
held at Wonderland Gardens
in London. The meeting was
well attended. Ducks
Unlimited is a very active
group in the USA and
Canada. An area well known
to most of us which they
pre
maintain is. the Iiullett
Wildlife Management Area,
Clinton.
A large flock of geese was
observed flying over the
village at 8;15 p.m.. Friday
night. This flock,' was
observed in the down town
area of Port Albert Saturday
morning. Perhaps they are
feeding in this area.
Barber Shop
Friendliness
In the downtown area of
Goderich there is a barber
shop which opens its door at
6 a.m. on a Saturday and
when the barber turns the
key in the door, it is not
unusual for three or four of
the faithfuls to be waiting to
get their hair cut.
What makes a man leave
his warm bed and travel
downtown at that hour? Does
he want to get his hair cut
with little or no waiting?
In today's society we find
barber shops closing their
doors. Some just open cer-
tain days of the week. The
one in downtown Goderich is
busy all day and every day
except Wednesday when it is
closed. Visit this barber shop
a couple of times as a new
customer and after these
visits when you return, you
will be greeted by your first
name. Barber shops can be
places of interest and I
believe the local shop is just
that. As an occasional
visitor, I am always im-
pressed by the friendliness
of the staff
