Harvest
fair at
museum
An excellent opportunity
to enjoy autumn's colours is
to visit the Ontario
Agricultural Museum near
Milton. Nestled beneath the
Niagara Escarpment, the
- museum will be celebrating
its 'Harvest Fair'Sunday,
September 18 from, 12.5 p.m.
The day is full of activities
for people of all ages to en-
joy. Learn the craft of straw
plaiting, try your hand at
quilting or pitch a few
horseshoes. Savour the
smells of homebaked goods
from the open hearth, watch
an old cider press in opera-
tion or visit the blacksmith
and wheelwright. The
museum's shingle mill will
be in operation and a
threshing demonstration will
take place at the Pioneer
Farmstead.
Join in and celebrate the
year's harvest at the church
service at 2:30 p.m. in the
historic Mayne United Chur-
ch. Gospel singing by the
Graham sisters of
Hillsburgh will also be
featured.
The museum is open daily
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until
October 10. Admission is
$2.50 for adults, students
$1.50, children $1 and family
$6. The museum is located
five km west of Milton, just
south of Highway 401. Take
exit 312 (Hwy 25N) and
fellow the signs.
Energy
plan
expanded
Ontario Hydro intends to
expand its combination
electricity -oil home heating
program, Dane MacCarthy,
vice-president of marketing
said recently.
Last spring, Hydro in-
troduced a program to pro-
vide assistance to their
customers who wish to add a
plenum heater to their
forced -air oil furnace to save
heating dollars.
"Customers who are con-
sidering converting to a dual
electric -oil space heating
system using baseboard
heaters, heat pumps or hot
water heating (hydronic)
systems will now be eligible
for assistance," he said.
Effective immediately,
customers served directly
by Ontario Hydro who
reduce their oil consumption
by at least 50 per cent by in-
stalling a dual system will
receive:
— a taxable grant under
the Canada Oil Substitution
Program (COSP) up to a
maximum of $800 or 50 per
cent of the cost whichever is
the lesser.
— up to $100 in services
from Ontario Hydro which
will cover the cost of elec-
trical inspection, as well as
pre -installation and in-
service checks.
— a $100 interest-free loan
from Ontario Hydro. This
loan will be waived by Hydro
after three years from the
date of installation
