Couple return from
Western Canada trip
Barbara and Alvin Betties
are home after spending two
months in western Canada.
They visited Barb's sister
Jayne and her family, Mac
Graham, Anne and Adam
Taylor in Dawson Creek.
Barb and Al spent a few
days with Hazel and Storey
Parker in Moose Jaw, Hazel
is Al's first cousin. Their last
stop was in Shoal Lake,
Manitoba visiting with
Barb's cousin Jack and
Mabel Wright returning
home by way of Minnesota,
Michigan and Upper Penn-
sylvania. They had good
camping accommodation all
the way and good weather
with daytime temperature 70

Sunday morning at
Holmesville United Church
the Sunday School Rally
Service was held.
The children formed the
choir with Nancy Hearn at
the piano and Hugh Lobb as
director.
Sunday School superin-
tendent Alison Lobb assisted
by Hugh Lobb gave out at-
tendance awards. Alison was
very proud of the teachers,
parents and children as 30

Council will increase
compensation to employees
The regular September
session of West Wawanosh
Township Council took place
Tuesday, September 6.
Among items of cor-
respondence dealt with was
a decision from the Inflation
Restraint Board directing
Ole township to implement
the mandatory increase in
compensation to employees
effective January 1, 1983, as
required by the Inflation
Restraint Act, 1982. Coun-
cillor Hickey moved: "That
West Wawanosh Township
increase the employees'
remuneration by the man-
datory $750 as required."
There was no seconder.
Arnold Stothers appeared
before council in regard to
having the lane, adjacent to
his property in Nile, approv-
ed as a road to be maintain-
ed by the township. Council
informed Stothers it would
consult with the Ministry of
Transportation and Com-
munications to determine
the course which would have
to be taken.
Road accounts in the
amount of $42,995.25 and
general accounts of $59,000
were ordered paid.
Employees' remuneration
included in the above ac-
counts was calculated using
the mandatory increase
directed by the Inflation
Restraint Board.
A motion was passed:
"That the West Wawanosh
Road Superintendent is
hereby authorized to adver-
tise in the Lucknow Sentinel
for one week for tenders to
dispose of a certain lot of
trees in the Inglis Pit."
A motion was also passed:
"That the West Wawanosh
Building Inspector is hereby
authorized to issue permits
to N. Rintoul (house addi-
tion) ; W. Beyersbergen
(house addition) and J.D.
Shetler (silo)."
After a lengthy discussion
regarding the Robinson
Drainage Works, the clerk
was directed to contact
Engineer William Shifflett,
requesting his attendance at
a meeting with council in
connection with his fees for
the report.
Two applications for loan
for tile drainage were con-
sidered by council, A motion
by Councillors Hickey and
Brindley approved loans for
A.J. Sherwood and Raymond
Boyle for tile drainage on
Part Lot 13, Concession 5;
and the E1/2 Lot 23, Conces-
sion 4 and the W1/2 Lot 23,
Concession 5, respectively.
By -Law No. 16-83 was
given a third reading and
passed. The Renon Drain,
By -Law No. 16-83,
authorize s\the construction
of the drainage works in
West Wawanosh, initiated by
Colborne Township.
Council agreed to proceed
with steps to implement
computer tax billing for 1984
taxation.
The meeting then adjourn-
ed to October 3 at 7 p.m.

At the Men's Inter
Township Slo-pitch tourney
in I,ondesboro, Porter's Hill
defeated Holmesville Store
for the championship.
Clinton won the consulation.
The Ladies Inter Township
slo-pitch tourney was won by
l.ondesboro and Auburn won
the consulation at
Holmesville.
The Bantam boys tourney
in Colborne Township was
won by Goderich Township.
At the to'ilrnatt ent ` on
September 17 the Pee Wee
boys will play at Goderich
and the Squirt boys will meet
at Goderich Township. The
first game starts at 9 a.m.
Come and see boys play.
Shower
On August 29 ,Edna Jantzi
held a community shower for
Lori Alexander, Carrie
Koetsier, Bev. Jantzi and
Eleanor Blair presented the
bride-to-be with the shower
gifts. Lori thanked everyone
for coming and for their
lovely gifts. Lunch was
served by Edna Jantzi.

their marriage last Satur-
day.
President elected for club
The 441 club, Dungannon
I held their first and second
meeting of the fall project on
Wednesday, September 7 at
the Dungannon United
Church. Leaders are Sharon
Pengalley and Bernice Glenn
and there are twelve mem-
bers in the club.
Members elected a presid-
ent and a vice president,
Angela and Arleta Glenn.
Leaders distributed the pam-
phlets and conducted the
reading and answering of
questions in meetings one
and two.
Brenda Sowerby entertain-
ed the group with her
teaching of exercises and
dance fit. The meeting closed
after the leaders presented
Brenda with a gift for coming
out and showing the group
how to keep fit.
Congratulations to Mr.
and Mrs. Larry Brindley
(Kelly Weaver) who were
married at Dungannon Unit-
ed Church on Friday even-
ing. The reception was at
I.ucknow Community Centre.
The former Mason McAl-
lister house has been sold to
Rene and Sharon Arsenault.
The Arsenaults and daught-
er. Patti, moved in the Sept-
ember holiday weekend.
A successful Stag and Doe
was held on Saturday night
for Heather Marshall and
Wayne Pearson who are to
be married September 30.

year old Pearl Congram

the piano. Annette Ritchie
gave the address of best
wishes, to which Irene gave a
fitting reply.
A bridal ,,hower was held
at the church in Dungannon
on Wednesday evening for
Kelly Weaver. It was given
by Susan Brindley and Kim
Dickson.
Lori Brindley opened the
evening with a reading, For
All New Brides. After the
reading, games were played
and Kelly opened many
lovely gifts. She was assisted
by Kim Dickson, maid of
honour; Jane Maties, brides-
maid and Jodi Weaver, flow-
er girl.
Lunch was then served and
Kelly thanked everyone for
the gifts and for coming.

EXETER - A plan by the
industry and tourism
promotion committee to hire
a former Exeter man to
- promote the town in England
was put on hold by council
last week.
Councillors Bill Rose and
Gaylan Josephson led the
opposition to the plan, as
they questioned whether the
great economic climate in
Great Britain was conducive
to firms considering moves
to Canada as well as the fact
the committee planned to
take the cost of the program
from next year's budget.
