Weekend visitors with George and Betty Moncrief W were Dr. Russell and Lesley Moncrief of Aylmer and George and Jane Ullrich and their three girls of London. Lee Drennap, son of Leroy and Annette Drennan, and Laura Miltenburg, daughter of John and Angela Milt- enburg, have started to kind- ergarten at Brookside School this term. Frank and Peggy MacLen- nan, children of Finlay and Carey MacLennan, have Kee Webster, 3815-5257 gone to Owen Sound to attend Georgian College. Katie Sutherland of Lon- don, who has been staying with her sister, Dorothy (D.A.) MacLennan most of the summer, has now return- ed to London. Ross and Jean MacKenzie had their two sons, Bob and Kevin MacKenzie of Toronto with them for the weekend. Jim Webster of Waterloo was at home with his par- ents, Wellington and Kae Webster on the weekend. Weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Warren Wylds was their daughter, Linda Wylds of London, their son, Kenny Wylds of Goderich and granddaughter, Meloney. This week, as chosen by Provincial Com- mand, is observed as an op- portunity for the over 400 branches in Ontario to make their 153,000 ordinary and associate members as well as the general public more aware of the variety of pro- grams and projects that are promoted and/or supported by the Royal Canadian Legion. The 1983 Legion Week committee, whose chairman is comrade Carolyn Holborn, has organized a variety of activities that are designed for members of all age groups as well as members of the community who are also invited to participate in Legion Week. On Saturday, September 17 a Legion display will be located in the Suncoast Mall from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Members of the Branch and the Auxiliary will be present to discuss the display. The Ladies' Auxiliary will have a table of goodies for sale and Legion members may also pay their 1984 dues at this time. Remember that the 1984 dues have increased from $15 to $20 for ordinary and associate members. The annual Decoration Day Service will be held on Sunday, September 18 at 2 p.m. at the Veterans' Plot of the Maitland Cemetery. A bus, courtesy of Sherwood Transportation, will leave the Legion Hall at 1:15 for those who do not wish to drive. The parade will form up on the east side of the cemetery at 1:30 p.m. and the Royal Canadian Pipe Band will be in attendance. A Levee will be held at the Legion Hall following the service. On Tuesday afternoon, September 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. all senior citizens are invited to a seniors' euchre party at the Legion. There is no charge and prizes and lunch will be available. The Ladies' Auxiliary will be hosting a pot luck supper on Thursday, September n in the Jubilee Room beginn- ing at 6:30 p.m. The lounge will be open from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This supper is open to all Branch and Auxiliary members and their spouses or partners. After supper, all are invited to the lounge to play cards with the Thursday night card players at a cost of 50 cents per per- son. Plan to make up your favourite casserole or dessert and enjoy an even- ing of comradeship. The week will come to a conclusion with a Legion Week dance on Saturday, September 24 from 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Jubilee Room. There will be several draws during the evening. Legion and Auxiliary members who produce a current member- ship card and a guest will enter free. All other non- members or members who fail to show their Legion membership card will be charged $2 at the door. The Legion Week commit- tee sincerely hopes that you will partake and that you will enjoy the events being offered during this week. On the Canada Day weekend, the auxiliary was involved in many activities. Beginning July 1, the aux- iliary color party took part in the Canada Day parade in Goderich and immediately following, President Sharon Scruton joined the color par- ty for the civic ceremony at the Court House on The Square, officially welcoming Goderich's American friends. On July 2 at Western Night, a gift was presented by President Scruton to the Bay City Auxiliary Presi- dent. July 3 began early to prepare for the annual Friendship Breakfast. The ladies began serving at 8 a.m. and a very busy three hours followed. Two hundred and eighty breakfastswere served; 68 of those were complimentary to the Americans from Bay City, including 17 Girl Scouts and their leaders. Many of the workers then donned their uniforms for the Drumhead Service in Luckngw. This, was mass pipe d parade, irrOolving many Ontario pipebaillds. The auxiliary members then joined with the Branch to enjoy the Sunday after- noon Levee at the Legion Hall in Goderich. Committee heads were kept busy , with Thursday night cards, catering, bingo, canteen, hospital visits and vet's care. A leadership seminar held in the Legion Hall for both branch and auxiliary members was something new and all members are urged to watch their bulletins for information of upcoming seminars. The monthly executive meeting was held August 22 and some planning for early September activities was completed. Legion Week will begin Saturday, September 17 with a display at Suncoast Mall. A bake sale sponsored by the auxiliary will be held at the mall from 9 a.m. until the goods are sold. Auxiliary members are encouraged to take part in Decoration Day at Maitland Cemetery Sunday, September 18. The panicle will form at 1:30 p.m. Fictitous name and address being used Last week Goderich Police Chief Pat King was informed by local businesses that a male was using a fictitious name and address to cash cheques. The name being used was Trusdell and the address was somewhere in Windier.
