plans activities
for Legion Week
WWII, SHAW
This year Goderich Legion
Branch 109 will mark Legion
Week from Saturday,
September 17 to Saturday,
September 24. This week, as
chosen by Provincial Com-
mand, is observed as an op-
portunity for the over 400
branches in Ontario to make
their 153,000 ordinary and
associate members as well
as the general public more
aware of the variety of pro-
grams and projects that are
promoted and/or supported
by the Royal Canadian
Legion.
The 1983 Legion Week
committee, whose chairman
is comrade Carolyn Holborn,
has organized a variety of
activities that are designed
for members of all age
groups as well as members
of the community who are
also invited to participate in
Legion Week.
On Saturday, September
17 a Legion display will be
located in the Suncoast Mall
from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Members of the Branch and
the Auxiliary will be present
to discuss the display. The
Ladies' Auxiliary will have a
table of goodies for sale and
Legion members may also
pay their 1984 dues at this
time. Remember that the
1984 dues have increased
from $15 to $20 for ordinary
and associate members.
The annual Decoration
Day Service will be held on
Sunday, September 18 at 2
p.m. at the Veterans' Plot of
the Maitland Cemetery. A
bus, courtesy of Sherwood
Transportation, will leave
the Legion Hall at 1:15 for
those who do not wish to
drive. The parade will form
up on the east side of the
cemetery at 1:30 p.m. and
the Royal Canadian Pipe
Band will be in attendance.
A Levee will be held at the
Legion Hall following the
service.
On Tuesday afternoon,
September 20 from 2 to 4
p.m. all senior citizens are
invited to a seniors' euchre
party at the Legion. There is
no charge and prizes and
lunch will be available.
The Ladies' Auxiliary will
be hosting a pot luck supper
on Thursday, September n
in the Jubilee Room beginn-
ing at 6:30 p.m. The lounge
will be open from 5:30 to 6:30
p.m. This supper is open to
all Branch and Auxiliary
members and their spouses
or partners. After supper, all
are invited to the lounge to
play cards with the
Thursday night card players
at a cost of 50 cents per per-
son. Plan to make up your
favourite casserole or
dessert and enjoy an even-
ing of comradeship.
The week will come to a
conclusion with a Legion
Week dance on Saturday,
September 24 from 9 p.m. to
1 p.m. in the Jubilee Room.
There will be several draws
during the evening. Legion
and Auxiliary members who
produce a current member-
ship card and a guest will
enter free. All other non-
members or members who
fail to show their Legion
membership card will be
charged $2 at the door.
The Legion Week commit-
tee sincerely hopes that you
will partake and that you
will enjoy the events being
offered during this week.

Goderich have had a busy
summer.
On the Canada Day
weekend, the auxiliary was
involved in many activities.
Beginning July 1, the aux-
iliary color party took part in
the Canada Day parade in
Goderich and immediately
following, President Sharon
Scruton joined the color par-
ty for the civic ceremony at
the Court House on The
Square, officially welcoming
Goderich's American
friends.
On July 2 at Western
Night, a gift was presented
by President Scruton to the
Bay City Auxiliary Presi-
dent.
July 3 began early to
prepare for the annual
Friendship Breakfast. The
ladies began serving at 8
a.m. and a very busy three
hours followed. Two hundred
and eighty breakfastswere
served; 68 of those were
complimentary to the
Americans from Bay City,
including 17 Girl Scouts and
their leaders.
Many of the workers then
donned their uniforms for
the Drumhead Service in
Luckngw. This, was mass
pipe d parade, irrOolving
many Ontario pipebaillds.
The auxiliary members
then joined with the Branch
to enjoy the Sunday after-
noon Levee at the Legion
Hall in Goderich.
Committee heads were
kept busy , with Thursday
night cards, catering, bingo,
canteen, hospital visits and
vet's care.
A leadership seminar held
in the Legion Hall for both
branch and auxiliary
members was something
new and all members are
urged to watch their
bulletins for information of
upcoming seminars.
The monthly executive
meeting was held August 22
and some planning for early
September activities was
completed.
Legion Week will begin
Saturday, September 17 with
a display at Suncoast Mall. A
bake sale sponsored by the
auxiliary will be held at the
mall from 9 a.m. until the
goods are sold.
Auxiliary members are
encouraged to take part in
Decoration Day at Maitland
Cemetery Sunday,
September 18. The panicle
will form at 1:30 p.m.
Fictitous name and
address being used
Last week Goderich Police Chief Pat King was
informed by local businesses that a male was using a
fictitious name and address to cash cheques.
The name being used was Trusdell and the address
was somewhere in Windier. If this man comes into a
business, the person working is to contact the police.
