Brownie leaders needed TIC, BITS Joanna Buchanan The First and Fourth Goderich Brownie Packs are in desperate need of leaders and cannot start their meetings until these leaders are found. Perhaps some of the parents of the girls would be interested? The First Goderich Pack meets Wednesday evenings at North Street United Church and the Fourth Goderich Pack meets Thursday evenings in Vic- toria School. You don't need training to be a leader; just show an interest and the training will come later 'on the job'. •• Please help keep these two packs from folding. You will receive lots of assistance. Contact Sylvia Brady at 524- 6824 for further information. Being a Brownie leader can be a rewarding experience. Zurich does it • again ZURICH - The tiny village has done it again. For the 18th consecutive year it has hosted a successful bean festival. Organizers estimate the population of the village mushroomed from the usual 900 to a street - filling mass of humanity numbering around 20,000, about the same as in the past few years. Visitors began lining up for e sausage and pancake breakfast shortly after 7 a.m. Mahlon Martin, president of the Zurich Minor Athletic Association, which provided the chefs, estimated he and his crew served between 850 and 900 meals. The hungry early risers demolished 225 pounds of sausage, 160 pounds of pancake mix and eight gallons of maple syrup. The latecomers were still mopping up the last traces of the maple syrup with the last piece of thick golden pan- cake when the Festival kitchen team began dishing out the first of its famous bean dialers. More than 8,000 dinners were served before the kitchen closed down at 7 p.m. People began lining up again early Sunday morning to purchase left- over beans. They were soon sold out. Celebrate . re -opening GRAND BEND - The pollution problem at the beaches in the Grand Bend area is all but cleared up. Grand Bend Reeve Bob Stiffen said there was an official announcement on August 26 that the main beach was no longer posted for heavy pollution. Mr. Sharon said there were about 1,500 people on the beach on August 7,r, when the announcement was made over a public address system. That number is Indicative of the rebound in business the village ex- perienced over the weekend. The reeve said business was up "considerably" by all accolade. SPECIALPRICES IN EFFECT FROM WED.
