Yesterday the CPR pulled out with a double header of 23 cars and a van. The tonnage was about 1050 and it was a pretty sight to see it leave, cross the bridge and move along the Maitland bank. The freight traffic over the CPR is on the in- crease. 50 YEARS AGO Goderich ratepayers voted 694 to 122 in favor of granting the Goderich Organ Com- pany Ltd. fixed taxation of one dollar, except school taxes, for a period of ten years. The wall separating it from the Blackstone's Furniture part of the business will be removed and the con- fectionery section will be incorporated into the fur- niture store to make for a larger display for furniture. The Federal Government may be willing to part with the post office property and $6,600 cash to get the town hall property, council was told Friday. When it became known early this year that the post office was to be torn down and replaced by a new federal building on the same site, Councillor Brute Sully suggested that consideration be given to an exchange of properties. When Clyde Gledhill arrived for work at the Benmilfer Woollen Mills Thursday morning, he discovered that 65 blankets with a total retail value of about $750 had been stolen.
