Wonders of nature affirm faith BY THE REVEREND ROBERT J. CROCKER, ST. GEORGE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH I have always believed that we find God chiefly MINISTER'S STUDY through the person and ex- ample of Jesus. Secondly, we find God are other people — who have been created in God's image. Then, thirdly, we find God in nature — the other parts of His creation' But I am particularly fond of natural beauty, and one morning during my holiday, I stood looking out toward the horizon over the stilled waters of the bay. Here and there, a ripple from a gull's wake or a fish's quest for un- wary insects reflected the glow of the sun. Also, I am fond of poetry. And these lines came to Huronview news mind: How wonderful creation is, The work which thou didst bless; And 0 what then must thou be like, Eternal Loveliness! As I wrote this, I was sur- prised that F.W. Faber had ended the stanze with an ex- clamation mark. I had almost expected a question mark. But he, the writer, was not asking a question. He was affirming his faith arising from his experience of the wonders of nature, that the Creator must be ever so much lovelier than His creation. And I should not have been surprised, because I wasn't asking a question either. There were no doubts in my mind. And somehow I think that, if you had been there on that summer morning look- ing out across the bay at the horizon, there would have been few doubts in your mind. Doubts will come. To our eyes there are also unlovely things in creation. There are tragedies and difficulties that must be faced in nature and in our lives. But now, having seen something of God on a summer morning, those things are easier to face. And that is wonderful too. Successful yard sale raises money The September 4 church service was held in the Huronview auditorium with a good attendance. Guest speaker was Reverend Mills from Exeter, a former minister of Ontario St. United Church in Clinton. Mr. Mills delivered a splendid address. The choir sang and a duet was sung by Elsie Henderson and Mabel Scott. Monday was the ever popular ice cream day, and what a real treat it is too. Helen Bradley was busy to- day making donuts, and they were delicious. On September 7, the residents had a social hour in the after- noon, with coffee and homemade donuts. It is hard to believe that summer is passing by so quickly, and before long, we will be slipp- ing into the fall months. Van rides were on the agenda for Wednesday and some men residents had an outing in the morning. In the afternoon, the ladies went for a tour around the coun- tryside and stopped off at Bellview Farms, Goderich. While there, they were treated to apples and peaches.., ,tllyough, th)e courtesy of the Bell family. On Monday, the weather dampened the spirits somewhat and outdoor ac- tivity was cancelled. But Tuesday everything was go- ing well, and the ladies from 2nd floor enjoyed their barbecue of hamburgs and hot dogs. Thursday afternoon was the scene of a successful yard sale, held on the lawn in front of the building here. Thanks to all those people, who kindly donated the many articles on display. Friday afternoon, the ladies on Ground Centre gathered around the piano and listened to music provid- ed by Frank Bissett. We also had the pleasure of hearing Miss Greta Lammie play the piano. To round out the day, bingo was held and some of the ladies took part in ceramic class. Sunday morning worship on August 28 was held in the Huronview auditorium. Since no minister was available, Betty Scratch read the scriptures. Frank Bissett presided at the piano for- congregational singing of gospel songs and requests. The flowers were in memory of the late Mr. Jack Yeo of Clinton. Monday afternoon, ice cream cones were delivered to each floor for the residents. Sales are rapidly climbing, and a bucket of this delicious product doesn't last very long. Tuesday noon, 1st floor north men and those from mens' bed care had a sump- tuous meal of hamburgs, hot dogs and ice cream. Diets were easily put aside as the men enjoyed their food. Fresh air and sunshine do wonders for an appetite. Special Care residents were entertained outdoors, with games, music and refreshments. Wednesday afternoon, they went for a van ride, viewing the scenery of the countryside. intended for last Thursday, is the following report on Bible study.
