The front of the bus shows the oldest fossils, most of which are found near Thunder Bay and are called stromatolites. They are microscopic bacteria and algae. Also at the front is a map that shows where the fossils are discovered. The middle section is divided into three areas as well. This section shows the different time spans that the ancient forms of animals and plant rocks were found. The specimens range from 500- 365 million -years -old. The rear of the mobile has specimens from the ice age as well as a coral display that reads "the fossils of tomorrow." ROM takes the moble around Southern Ontario in the summer to museums, art galleries, libraries and parks. In the spring and fall they visit schools. Sherwood acted and opened the meeting, welcoming all who then repeated the Mary Stewart Collect. Minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs. A. Stoll and .cosr:espondence ..was . at- tended to, - including a thankyou from Mrs. Phyllis Wilson; and an invitation to Dungannon Women's Institute meeting this Thursday, September 1 at 8:30 p.m. in the United Church basement. Information was read regarding a Wise Money Management short course workshop to be held Sep- tember 14 and 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Goderich Township Hall, Holmesville. Registration is necessary. Information was also read on Miller's Barn quilting and craft classes for the Fall of '83 and brochures were distributed from 'I'm Proud to be Me' Travel Inc. of Willowdale on many trips available this fall in Canada, Great Britain, Bermuda, Colonial Williamsburg and several other places. The Institute is pleased to have two ladies whd' are interested m leading the next 4-H project, 'Looking Great and Feeling Great'. Mrs. Helen Riehl will be in charge (524-8143) With Mrs. Sharon Edward as her assistant (524-7655) . Those wishing to take this project, please contact either one of these ladies promptly so they can obtain books and supplies. The next WI meeting will be Thursday, September 22 in Colborne Township Hall. Education and Cultural Affairs will be the topic with Mrs. E. Sherwood and Mrs. E. Bogie in charge. Henry Brindley, Mrs. R. Brock and Mrs. Ila Bean. .Those present then en- joyed an appetizing pot -luck lunch and took a serving to one of their members, Mrs. Marguerite Horton, who is not enjoying the best of health at present, and also paid her a friendly visit. Social News The community is pleased to announce that Terence Hunter, who has been a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, has returned home and is con- valescing. His many friends wig him improved helath. Guests with Mr. and Mrs. R. Buchanan last week were Mrs. Buchanan's two brothers, George Jacques and his wife from Compton, Quebec and Jean Marc Jacques and his wife from Asbestos, Quebec. Congratulations to Andrea Smith of R.R. 6 Goderich who received the Grand Champion Female trophy donated by Howson and Howson Ltd. of Blyth for her 4-11 rheifer at the very ,suc- ressful Dui:gaiuwn Fair held recently. Country Fair It's nearing Christmas Country Fair time again. The fair is a great place to visit whether you give many Christmas gifts and find it an ideal place to buy that special something; or are looking for new ideas for yourself ; wanting to stock up on vegetables, honey and apples for fall and winter; or simply enjoy a day's outing. The dates for the fair this year are Wednesday, October 19 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m,; Saturday, October 22 from 14 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, October 23 from noon until 6 p.m. When this fair com- menced, it was operated by a group from Colborne Township who were in- terested in crafts. It was a way to bring their crafts and home baking to the public's attention. For the past 17 years, the fair has met with con- siderable success, attracting people from far and wide. The executive has decided to give the balance they had on hand, totalling $534.13, to the Intensive Care Unit of Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. It is hoped that many in the community will benefit from this splendid gesture. • fI!his. year's fair is being sponsored by. the Blue Water Chapter No. 284, Order of the Eastern Star, Goderich. They hope to carry on much the same and should have an excellent display again this year. Every week until the fair, a craftsman will be featured in this column. This week is devoted to Creative Mirrors, unique mirrors with a difference by Doug Chamney of Auburn.
