Sunset
There is something about the Sunset
Men's Invitational Tournament that
brings out the best in Brian Reeve's game.
The Sunset member, always first off the
tee tournament day, won the tournament
title two years ago and Wednesday he
engineered a repeat performance firing a
sparkling three -under par 67 to top a field
of 160 entries.
Despite some weak challenges from first
flight entrants, it was evident early in the
day that the 67 would clinch a second
tournament championship for Reeve.
Reeve turned in an immaculate three -
under 32 on the front side and settled for
par 35 on the back. His three -under per-
formance on the front featured a birdie
two on the par three 156 -yard second hole
and an eagle on the par five eighth. He
dorve the fairway on eight, pounded a
three wood to within three feet of the pin
and sunk the eagle putt.
If pressure was getting to Reeve, it
didn't show until the final hole. He was one
under on the back nine until he missed an
apporach shot on the long par four 18th The winners of lathe's night were :first

Rink Rats await opponent for finals in ball hockey
The Rink Rats have eliminated United
two games to one and are now waiting for
the series between Sherwood Express and
the Rebels to be completed. That series is
tied at three points each.
The Rink Rats could not repeat last
week's performance on Tuesday, as they
fell victims to the United offense, as
United took the game 6-2.
Mark Frane opened the scoring early in
the game while team-mates Ian Chisholm,
Mark Bellinger followed his lead. Frane
then netted another goal before the Rats
were able to get on the scoreboard.
Early in the second period Paul Kelly
put the ball behind the United netminder to
make the score 4-1, and to keep the Rats
hopes alive. However', when Mike Lapaine
scored for the United team, hopes began to
dwindle for the Rats.
Dan Mallet found an opening behind the
United goalie, but United's Bill Lewis
responded with the final goal, closing the
game with a 6-2 score, and tying the series
at one game a piece.
Thursday saw both teams not wanting to
give in, but the end result was a 3-2 victory
for the Rink Rats.
The Rats opened the scoring on a goal by
Kevin Meriam, but the United team was
quick to respond with a goal by Dennis
Donelly. Minutes later Jim Fritzley beat
the United team to give the Rats a 2-1 lead.
Half -way through the second period
Mark Bellinger netted a goal to tie the "B" division can claim fame to the

After the Rebels win last week which
gave them a one game lead over Sherwood
Express, the Express team tightened their
defense making Tuesday's game come to a
3-3 draw.
The Rebels opened the scoring only
seconds into the first period when Brad
Armstrong beat the Express goalie. But
Express bounced back with a goal by
Denis Kerr to tie the game.
It was then that Steve Walters netted an
unassisted goal giving the lead back to the
Rebels until Dave Gallow and Denis Kerr
each scored putting Express into the lead
for the first time in the game.
Mike Wedlock scored the tying goal in
the second period for the Rebels, but still
kept Expresses' playoff hopes alive.
On Thursday the Rebels jumped to art
quick 1-0 lead and maintained it
throughout the first period, but the second
period saw Express score three goals to
give them a 3-1 victory and tie the series at
three points each. Express goals were
scored by Tim Chislom, Dave Gallow and
Dave Schmidt.
Playoff action continues this week, with
the winner meeting the Rink Rats.
Slowpitch playoffs could be close
As expected, there is a hot battle going
on in "A" division between the Port Albert
Bulldogs and the Goderich Bears.
Although they hold a point advantage, the
Bulldogs have played more games. On the
Bears' side, they have a 10-9 victory over
the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs must win their
re -match if they hope to maintain their
position. The game will be played on
Friday at 9 p.m. on the fastball diamond.
Goderich Gas Rise and Goderich
Elevators appear to be losing a bit of
steam, and the experience of the Goderich
Chrysler, Goderich Auto Sales and Coyotes
seems to be comi g through. While they
will likely finish third, fourth and fifth
respectively, they will keep the leaders on
their toes.
playoff experience of Little Bowl and the
sometimes hot bats of Canadian Tire.
Although the Renegades have only two
points, they have only played three games.
When they get rolling they can beat any
team in the league.
These four teams could provide a tight
race to the finish while the Harbour Park
Raiders and the Tickers could fill the role
of the "spoiler."
Division "C" has produced some of the
closest and most interesting results in the
playoffs to date. Both Meneset and Carlow
are on a roll, however, Carlow has the edge
with a 15-9 triumph over Meneset. Their
re -match could well decide the "C"
trophy.
Garb and Gear picked up their first
victory of the season with a close 12-11
deicsion over Local 1863. Bluewater has
matched their season point production
with two wins in four playoff games. Sifto
Salt, although behind in points, holds
games in hand over both the leaders. Only
Local 1863 remains pointless with six
losses in six games.
At the league level, a team represen-
tative meeting was held Monday night.
They are now open for nominations in
every position.
