Lakeport Advertising became the
second team to clinch a spot in the Labour
Day Tournament with three points in two
games. Lakeport downed Hotel Bedford,
the other team already in the tournament,
7 - 0 and tied French Cleaners 2 - 2.
Simon Langlois gave up one hit, a leadoff
single by Gary Peters and had two hits
including a first -inning homer to lead
Lakeport. Greg Hansen, Bill Gallow and
Larry McCabe each contributed two hits.
Against French, Lakeport took a 2 T 1
lead in the top of the seventh when Len
Kolkman doubled and scored on Ron
Corriveau's single. But in the bottom of the
seventh, Jim Martin led off with a home
run to tie the game.
Martin led all hitters with three. George
Sutton had two hits for French while Larry
McCabe had two for Lakeport.
Kirkey's moved closer to a tournament
appearance with a 4 - 3 victory over the
Orioles. Ron Klages, John Phillips and
Terry Johnston each had two hits for
Kirkey's while Kevin Adams had two for
the Orioles. Daryl Beattie added a solo
home run in the first inning to give the
Orioles a brief lead. Each team committed
four errors in a poor defensive game.
Lakeport Steel came up with a big win
over Denomme's, 3-- 2. Lakeport took a 2 -0
lead in the first inning and held that lead
until the sixth when Jack MacKinnon's
double brought in two runs. Lakeport won
the game in the bottom of the seventh
when Ron Miller was walked with the
bases loaded to bring in the winning run.
Brian MacKenzie had a perfect 3 -for -3
game while also pitching a five -hitter.
Hayter's ended a four -game losing
streak with a 6 - 3 victory over Canada
Company. Dave McDonald and Myles
Murdock led the way with two hits each.
Brian Shewfelt had two hits for Canada
Company. Hayter's led 2 - 1 entering the
seventh and increased the lead to 6 -1 with
the aid of a couple of Canada Company
errors. Hayter's returned the favour,
letting the opposition score two runs on
three errors.

Maitland now
has Junior Day
The Maitland Golf Club
has 42 junior members who
now have their own day.
Thursday is Junior Day and
tee off time is 9 to 10 a.m.
Tuesday, August 9th was
Ladies' night. In the first
flight Maxine Martin won
the low gross prize and
Marie Huff won low net. Ed-
na booker won the low gross
in the second flight. In the
third flight Rosemarie
Evans won low gross and
Joyce Shack won low net. In
the fourth flight Auleen
Curry won the low gross
prize and Irla Stewart won
low net. Janet Gemmill and
Doris Paquette won prizes
for the lowest number of
putts.
For the past three years,
the Scaforth Ladies' section
has invited the Maitland,
Sunset and Bayfield ladies to
their club for a day of golf
and fellowship. The hail and
hearty weathered through
the rain on Monday to enjoy
nine holes of golf and dinner.
Doris Paquette won the low
gross prize. Marilyn Cornish
won a prize for a par on one.
Joan McDougall had the
lowest number of putts for
the day.
On Sunday evening, the
couples teed -off for their 2 -
ball tournament. Bill Hanly
and Ruth Keene were in first
place. Then Verna Kane and
Mike Paquette placed se-
cond. In third spot was Don
MacEwan and Joan
McDougall. Stan Paquette
and ,Edna Looker were four-
th, Murray McGill and Jean
Hanly were fifth while John
Kane and Marie Huff placed
sixth.
Generals annihilate

On Monday August 5th, the
Generals clowned the Leafs
12-1.
The Generals made their
first move early in the first
period by scoring three rapid
goals as the Leafs were
unable to capitalize on their
plays.
0 During the second period,
the Generals scored nine
more unanswered goals
taking a commanding lead.
Scoring for the Generals
were: Chris Sideris leading
the team with 6 goals and one
assist. Tod Jeffrey scored 3
goals and one assist, Tom
Bean had one goal and 7
assists, Dale Jeffrey with
one goal and 3 assists. Mark
C'auchi scored the final
General s goal with 3 assists.
Scoring the lone Leaf point
was Darrel Durnin, assisted
by Joe Fitzpatrick and Shane
Worsell.
In game number two of the
evening, the Oakleafs for-
feited their game to the
Capitals.
