It is designed to help prospective investors plan and build a portfolio suited to their own objectives. Topics include trading bonds, debentures, shares, options, commodities and investment certifi- cates. The instructor, an experienced job search counsellor, will discuss the purpose and uses of a resume and outline the six major points to be included. She will take you step by step through the process of creating a personal, functional resume which is appropriate to your job search, ready to be typed and used. The Roots Of Rock And Roll: Popular Music Of The SO's S Much attention has recently been direct- ed at the nostalgia for popular music of the 1950's. This course will take a somewhat serious look at the first generation of rock 'n' roll artists. Who were performers like Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino and Little Richard? Where did their music come from and why is its impact still being felt on popular music of the 80's? During a 6 week period this course will examine the three major categories of popular music of the 1950's: "Rock- abilly" (Hip -swivelling music of Elvis Presley and his imitators); "Rhythm and Blues" (the pounding dance music of black artists such as Fats Domino and Little Richard); "Doowop" (the sweet harmonies of singing groups such as the Platters). By listening to a cross section of examples each week, we will discover the way these styles draw their vitality from traditionally American music; Blues, Country, Western and Gospel. Understanding The Stock Market S Students will gain an understanding of common stocks, preferred shares, bonds, stock exchanges, corporate structures, annual reports, etc. and learn to use financial statements and market price charts in the timely purchase and sale of securities. Ultralight Flight Training S This sport originated from the adaptation of motors to hand gliders. Ultralights are controlled by either weight transfer or by more conventional three axis control. This course will provide the student with the basic theoretical skills and principles involved in flying ultralights. Freelance Writing And Selling S This course is aimed at helping people make use of the written word, and it is also designed to help developing writers learn the craft of writing magazine articles. Wood Stoves And Fireplaces S This course deals with the basics of safe installation, efficient operation, the care and maintenance of wood stoves and fireplaces. Attention is given to the law regarding building permits, to inspec- tions, to fire department approvals and to the effect on insurance policies and premiums. Advice is given on the merits of different types of wood for heating and how wood is collected, cut, dried and stored. Offered at: Cambridge. How Local Government Works S This is a general interest course for people who wish to learn how their municipal.governments work. The func- tions of city/town, regional and county governments will be discussed as well as the interaction of the provincial govern- ment with these. Some time will be spent examining financing at the municipal level including assessments, taxes and grants. There will also be discussions on the functioning and financing of some special purpose bodies e.g. Police Commission, School Boards. Offered at: Cambridge. You And The Interviewer N This course will show you how to turn your job interviews into job offers. Video taping of practice interviews will give you immediate feedback in learning to do an effective interview. Components cover- ed: planning and preparation for the interview, interview dynamics, needs and goals of the interviewer, establish- ment of your goals, questions of dress, behaviour and personal style. REAL ESTATE PRE -REGISTRATION N Although the three Introduction to Real Estate courses are designed for people wishing to become registered to sell real estate, they are open to anyone desiring a basic knowledge of the real estate in- dustry. You may attend courses on a part-time basis or on an intensive 6 hour per day basis. To qualify to write the examina- tion, 70% attendance is required in each segment of the course.
