EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION DIPLOMA PROGRAM (Part -Time Extension) (Note: Graduates of this program meet the academic and field work require- ments for certification by the Associa- tion for Early Childhood Education. On- tario.) The primary goal of the Early Child- hood Education Diploma Program (Part -Time Extension) is to foster and encourage the continuing self -growth of students by providing a problem -solving approach to learning. The program offers the fundamental knowledge and skills for those wishing to work with young children. The overall development of children is examined along with the techniques and procedures used in setting the stage for and guiding the behaviour of preschoolers in a nursery and day-care environment. Children with special needs are discussed along with pro- grams to meet these needs. Courses are conducted in the evenings and are designed to meet the needs of mature students who are presently working in the field of early childhood education, or a related field, and are unable to take the program on a full-time basis. The curriculum and field placement components of the program are equivalent to the full-time two-year Diploma Program offered by Conestoga College. Students will require approxi- mately four years to complete this part-time program. Field Placement experiences are a required part of the program. These experiences take place during the day and will be arranged on an individual basis by the Program Coordinator. Eligibility and Admission: An Ontario Secondary School Gradua- tion Diploma with Level IV/Grade 12 standing in English. OR An English IV Certificate or equivalent. OR Nineteen years of age or older. Applicant Assessment: 1. Assessment of the information con- tained in the completed Early Child- hood Education Program Question- naire. 26 2. Assessment of the information con- tained in completed Conestoga Col- lege medical forms. 3_ Assessment of personal suitability through an interview with program personnel. Program Admission: Applicants will be admitted to this program based on the program eligibili- ty requirements and the applicant as- sessment results. Program Information: 1. Applicants for this program are re- quired to visit a day care centre or nursery school to complete one of the items on Early Childhood Educa- tion questionnaire. 2. Attend an Early Childhood Education information meeting prior to being granted a personal suitability inter- view. Although spaces for Fall 1983 are limited, you may submit your applica- tion for consideration should spaces be available. Child Development A The general purpose of this course is to give the student a foundation knowl- edge in human development from con- ception through aging. Physical, motor, social, emotional, cognitive and lan- guage development are investigated with stress put on the prenatal and infancy stages as being the basis for later development. Offered at: Doon. Pre-school Methods A This course is an introduction to the field of Early Education; the various philosophies, environments and pro- grams offered for pre-schoolers. The underlying principles of working with young children will be studied in depth. The role of the teacher will be exam- ined if) respect to his/her own values, beliefs and self -understanding. Introduction to Psychology A This course gives an introduction to the basic principles of learning, memory, cognitive processes, intelligence, human development, sensation, per- ception, motivation, emotion, personali- ty theory and assessment, adjustment to stress, abnormal behaviour, thera- pists, and social psychology. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION RESOURCE TEACHER (Part -Time) Introduction To Resource Teaching A This course wilt' introduce students to the role and function of resource teachers, provide a philosophical basis for integration and normalization, exam- ine the current legislation affecting the card' and education of children with special needs, and explore modes of using community resources effectively. WOMEN'S EDUCATION PROGRAM All courses in the Women's Education Program listed at off -campus locations are offered in conjunction with the agency providing the facilities. \Registration All registrations should be forwarded to the nearest Continuing Education Office or Edith Torbay (see below for address). Courses Offered: Auto Mechanics For Women S This basic course includes theory and practical shop work. Topics include: starting a car in difficult weather, oil change, minor repairs. Creative Job Search Techniques S For women who have decided on a career change or who have identified an occupation in which they wish to find employment. The course will cover resumes, letters of application, applica- tion forms and how to survive the job in- terview. Offered at: Kitchener YWCA. Career Planning S This course will be of interest to women who want to work but don't know what to get into, and to women who are working and want to switch occupations and/or move ahead. The sessions will provide the opportunity for self -appraisal, explo- ration of occupations and the drafting of career plans. Offered at: Kitchener YWCA. Handywoman N This " is a practical course aimed at women who are interested in doing their own basic home maintenance and repairs. Topics to be covered will include minor plumbing and electrical problems; and a look at the tools and hardware most commonly used in a variety of projects. Students will have an opportu- nity to get some "hands-on" experi- ence. Offered at: Cambridge YWCA. Household Management: Time And Money This course is for someone N who is looking for a better management tech-
