Topics include: starting a car in difficult weather, oil change, minor repairs. It is preferable that students have their own set of basic tools. Offered at: Guelph, Waterloo. Do-lt-Yourself Auto Mechanics S Students who have a basic understand- ing of automotive repair will learn how to make their own repairs. Topics include: tune-ups, electrical and cooling system maintenance and repairs, etc. It is preferable that the students have their own tools. Offered at: Guelph. Automotive Electrical And Carburetion Systems S This course will be of interest to both beginners and more advanced students who wish to know the operation of and have a working knowledge of electrical and carburetion systems and compo- nents for automotive engines. The emphasis is on theory with some opportunity for practical applications which will assist students when doing repairs themselves or having repairs done. Offered at: Guelph. Diesel Update For Licenced Mechanics A Class A Mechanics who successfully complete this 60 hour course may write the Diesel Endorsement Exam. Topics include: types of diesel engines, compo- nents, fuel systems, lubrication, cooling and electrical. Offered at: Guelph. Basic Servicing And Repair Of Small Engines S This is a practical course for the person who wishes to diagnose problems and make repairs to all types of small engines. Students may work on their own small engines in class with the assistance of the instructor. Offered at: Guelph. Advanced Servicing And Repair Of Small Engines S Prerequisite to this course is the Basic course or its equivalent. This is a practical course and students may work on their own small engines in class with the assistance of the instructor. Stu- dents will receive advanced instruction on carburetors and overhauling engines similar to the Basic course. Offered at: Guelph. PRE -CERTIFICATION AND REFRESHER COURSES Motor Vehicle Mechanics Pre -Certification Of Qualification N This is a refresher course in the major trade subjects of the Motor Vehicle 22 Apprenticeship program. The objective is to assist apprentices in preparing to rewrite the Industrial Training qualifying examination. Offered at: Guelph. Natural Gas Fitter Licence Preparation N This course will assist and prepare those people planning to write the Gas Fitter II Provincial examination. It involves a study of the Gas Utilization Code. Offered at: Doon, Stratford. Interpretation Of Canadian Hydro Code 1 N Students will explore and study the Ontario Regulations regarding the elec- trical safety code. Students study the -Electrical Safety Code- which con- tains the electrical safety requirements for wiring and equipment in buildings, structures and premises. The course will also assist students to prepare for Provincial certification ex- amination. Offered at: Doon. Ontario Electrical Code And The Contractor N Theory course on the electrical code for electricians. Preparation is given for Municipal Master Electrician certifica- tion. Offered at: Doon, Guelph. Propane Gas Fitter Licence Preparation This course will prepare you to write the Provincial Certification Examination for your S-3 licence. You will write the examination and receive the results at the last session of the course. Offered at: Doon. HORTICULTURE Horticulture - Basic A This course is for beginners, to train in Basic Horticultural practices. The topics covered will be grounds mainte- nance, pruning, design - basic and basic plant identification. Students will be taught primarily in a classroom setting with periodic field trips. DO-IT-YOURSELF The following courses have been de- signed to give you a general knowledge in maintaining your home or cottage. They are not intended to make trades- people out ,of the students, but provide you with thbasic skill and knowledge necessary in making repairs or alter- ations, Finish Carpentry And Cabinet Making I S This is a practical course in Finish Carpentry and Cabinet Making. Stu- dents will build their own projects. Material cost is extra. Offered at: Doon. Finish Carpentry And Cabinet Making 11 5 The prerequisite for this course is Finish Carpentry and Cabinet Making I or equivalent. Students will continue to build their own projects but these will be of a more complex nature. The cost of materials is extra. Offered at Doon. Furniture Refinishing S In this hands-on shop course, students learn to use the tools and materials required' for finish removal, refinishing and furniture care. There is an additional supply fee depending on the size of the student's project. Offered at: Doon, Stratford. Plumbing For The Householder S Topics include: the use of metal and plastic pipes, how pumps and hot water tanks work, repairing taps, soldering and threading pipes. The objective of this course is to eliminate unnecessary repair costs and to have the homeowner prepared in case of emergencies. Offered at: Guelph. Residential Wiring S Participants will learn the proper in- stallation of basic electrical equipment, wiring, switches, outlets, boxes, lights, safety practices and codes and working in the normal house. Students need no prior experience. Offered at: Guelph, Stratford. DESIGN AND FASHION Introduction To Crochet S A course for the beginner covering basic stitches, working pattern variations, pattern reading, blocking and finishing work. Yarns and crochet hooks are not included in the fee. Students should bring a crochet hook (No. 5 to 8) and crochet material. Students will be able to complete several small projects. Offered at: Cambridge, Doon, Guelph. Crochet II S Students who have attended Introduc- tion to Crochet will learn how to read additional patterns. Individual assistance with interpretation and with difficult steps or problems will be provided. Offered at: Guelph. Duvet Workshop S A 3 -hour mini -course on the special techniques needed for making Europe- an -style duvets. Topics include selection of materials, measuring, baffling, de- monstration of filling.
