Bookkeeping/Accounting A
Students must complete Bookkeeping
Fundamentals before commencing
Bookkeeping/Accounting
This course will introduce the student
to essential bookkeeping accounting
principles and concepts with practical
application.
Topics include Adjustments. Financial
Statements, the Accounting Cycle, In-
ventory Valuation, Coding for Automat-
ed Accounting
Each student progresses at his • her
own rate, More than one semester will
be required to complete the course

Machine Transcription -
Introduction
A
Prerequisites. English Fundamentals,
Introduction to Typewriting II In this
course, the student learns how to use
transcribing equipment in order to
process words from the dictation ma-
chine to the typewritten page The
student learns to transcribe an accu-
rate copy having a simple format

Machine Transcription -
Production A
Prerequisite. Machine Transcription -
Introduction. This course further devel-
ops the skills acquired in the introduc-
tory course by providing additional
machine transcription practice in a
wide variety of drill material. The
student will acquire the skills required
for employment in the position of
Secretary - Machine Transcription.

Office Procedures A
Prerequisite: Introduction to Typewrit-
ing II. This course includes a variety of
office procedures, equipment and be-
haviors not covered in other courses;
such as postal and transportation ser-
vices, copying and duplicating pro-
cesses, telephone, filing and general
office functions.

Shorthand A
Prerequisites: English Fundamentals,
Introduction to Typewriting. The Short-
hand course is divided into two levels;
Shorthand - Basic and Shorthand - Ad-
vanced.
In Shorthand - Basic level, you will
study the theory and principles of
Forkner Shorthand and you should
attain a speed of 50-60 words per
minute on familiar material.
To be successful in the Shorthand -
Advanced level, you must attain a
speed of 80 words per minute by
applying the theory and principles

learned in the Basic level Shorthand
vocabulary, phrasing, and short-cut
techniques will be developed Persons
who have learned another system of
shorthand within the past three years
but need to brush up their skills can
be accommodated

Typewriting A
Beginners as well as more advanced
students can be accommodated The
course is comprised of three levels
Introduction to Typewriting I, Introduc-
tion to Typewriting II and Production
Typewriting The student progresses
through these levels at his, her own
speed Students with access to a
typewriter at home may progress at a
faster rate Beginner typists should be
able to complete Introductton to Type-
writing I and begin Introduction to
Typewriting II in one 12 week term
Students who attend classes which are
offered only one night per week will
take longer to achieve their goals It is
possible to register for another term
Topics include typewriter operation,
typewriter keyboard, centering, tabula-
tion, business letters, outlines, reports,
manuscripts

COURSES
Advanced Accounting A
Students must complete Bookkeep-
ing; Accounting before commencing
Advanced Accounting.
This course is designed to introduce
accounting principles and concepts
which will qualify the successful gradu-
ate for positions of intermediate re-
sponsibility requiring practical perfor-
mance.
Topics include. accounting for cost,
both merchandising and manufacturing,
manufacturing accounts and state-
ments, accounting for inventory, fixed
assets and receivables, corporation
formation and financing, budgetary
control accounting information for
managt.rnent decisions, statements of
charges in financial position.

Bookkeeping N
This is a course for those who are
interested in keeping books for a small
business or for their own personal use.
Topics include journal entries, posting
to ledger, petty cash, bank reconcilia-
tion, voucher system and preparation of
simple financial statements. Texts and
supplies are not included in the fee.
Texts wilt be available on the first night
of class at a cost of approximately $20.

Bank Training/Teller Duties A
This course teaches the basic duties of
a bank teller. It includes: running and
balancing of cash, how to sell the
bank s services (including money
orders, certified cheques). U S trans-
actions. Canada- Savings bonds, dif-
ferent banking accounts and travellers
cheques Students will learn about
these services from the viewpoint of
both the customer and the teller
Prerequisite is a good knowledge of
Mathematics, approximately Grade 10

The Complete Receptionist A
This is a basic course which focuses
on the role of the office receptionist
The importance of a good company
image. dealing with callers by tele-
phone and in person. using the tele-
phone. handling mail, are topics includ-
ed in this course Job applications and
resumes may be covered if there is
sufficient interest

Medical Preparatory For Clerical
Staff A
This course is designed to help stu-
dents learn and develop a broader
command and understanding of medi-
cal vocabulary as needed by medical
secretaries, receptionists, and other
medical personnel It is also valuable
for those who may be seeking a lob in
one of these settings Course content
covers the meaning and use of terms
as related to body structures, systems,
diseases and diagnostic procedures.

Medical Transcription A
Prerequisite Medical Terminology
course
This is an in-depth practical course in
medical dictation and transcription de-
signed to cover all the medical special-
ties necessary to allow the student to
function in a variety of medical facili-
ties. Classroom instruction will be given
as well as individual attention to each
student.
Offered at: Doon.
Typewriting N
Learn the fundamentals of the key-
board. Also taught are tabulating, cen-
tering, setting up letters, reports and
envelopes. Students with some typing
experience may continue to develop
speed up to capacity and employability
standards. Beginners as well as more
advanced students can be accom-
modated. Students will require more
than 10 weeks to achieve their goals
and it will be possible to register for
another term.

Typewriting Speed And Accuracy A
This course is designed to build con-
fidence and strengthen the skills of a
former typist who wishes to re-enter the
work force. It will also assist a novice
to attain a greater speed with more
