The TV Ontario Academy on Computers and Education received an overwhelming response, with more than 10,000 Ontarians participating. This fall at the Doon Campus, Conestoga offers two courses based on the TV Ontario series. "Bits and Bytes" will be offered in a classroom setting with an opportunity for hands-on experience in a microcomputer lab. There will also be a "Bits and Bytes" home learning project. Though participants register with TV Ontario for the self-directed study and watch the televised series at home, hands-on sessions will take place in Conestoga's microcomputer laboratory. A new course entitled '-How to Buy a Home Computer" will be offered this fall at the Doon, Guelph and Waterloo Campuses. Another new course, "Parents, Kids and Computers" is scheduled at the Stratford Campus. Conestoga has greatly increased its capacity for offering microcomputer courses. As of September, 45 IBM personal computers will be available for Continuing Education courses — double the number available last fall. We have increased our Guelph microcomputer facility and added a microcomputer lab at Stratford. One of our most exciting initiatives is "Computer Literacy for Office Workers", at both Doon and Guelph. Developed last year with special funding from the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, the intent of this course is to provide learners with an opportunity to acquire skills for a successful transition from working in the traditional office to the new, automated office.
