Denomme Memorial Counsellor Bus. 524-2337 Res. 5246621 Retired high school teacher and World War II veteran dies JOHN B < SHOREY John B. Shorey of Huron Haven died at his residence on Monday, July 25 at the age of 69. He was born in Waterdown on May 17, 1914 to Pascal and Rosie (Haight) Shorey. The late Mr. Shorey served in the Royal Canadian Mr Force (RCAF) during World War II. After leaving the service, he taught as a civilian instructor for the -RCAF at Clinton. He later taught high school at Owen Sound, Niagara on the Lake, Niagara Falls and then at Niagara College for 10 years before retiring in 1979 when he moved to Goderich. He was a member of St. George's Anglican Church, Goderich: He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Rene May; five children, John of Wawa, Paul of Edmonton, Mrs. John (Gwen) Goderre of Ottawa, Mrs. Steve (Darlene) Conforzi of Toronto and Charlene of St. Catharines; and 15 grandchildren. A funeral service was held at McCallum Funeral Home in Goderich on Friday, July 29 at 1:30 p.m, The Reverend Robert J. Crocker of St. George's Anglican Church officiated. Pallbearers were John Goderre, Steve Conforzi, Michael Shorey, Michael Goderre, Murray Craig and Bob Gauley. Honorary pallbearers were Eric Collins and Robby Conforzi. MISS MARGARET MITCHELL Miss Margaret Mitchell of Huronview, formerly of Goderich, died in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Monday, July 25 at the age of 70. She was born in Goderich on March 7, 1913 to Ernest and Eva (Inkster) Mitchell. The late Miss Mitchell was a registered nurse. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Goderich; Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109; and Bluewater Chapter no. 284 O.E.S. She is survived by a in-law, Mrs. Ford (MaitII) Little of Bayfield; a niece, Mrs. Walter (Suzanne) McIlwain of Goderich Township; and two nephews, Roger Mitchell of London and Larry Mitchell of Clinton. She was predeceased by one brother, Charles. A funeral service was held at McCallum Funeral Home in Goderich on Thursday, July 28 at 2 p.m. The Reverend Arthur C. Young of Knox Presbyterian Church officiated. Pallbearers were Roger Mitchell, Larry Mitchell, Walter Mcfwain, Patrick Fleming, John Hind and Don Rintoul. Interment was in Colborne, Cemetery. BENSON ALVIN PARK - Benson Alvin Park of 517 Campbell' Street, Lucknow, died in Wingham and District Hospital on Sunday, July 31 at the age of 70. He was born in Dungannon on February 4, 1913 to Richard West and Margaret Ann (Reid) Park. He worked as a fanner. On March 18, 1939, he married Hazel Rita Taylor, formerly of Albemarle Township and Hepworth, t the home of Mary and Stewart of Ashfield To ship. She survives him. Also surviving hint are nine children, Ken of Brampton, Mrs. David (Eleanor) Compton of Lucan, Mrs. Glen (Marilyn) Bradley of Sudbury, Larry of R.R. 6 Goderich, Mrs. Diane Burt of Goderich, Allan .of Fort McLeod, Alberta, Mrs. Bill (Colleen) Naylor of Sarnia, Doug of Goderich and Mrs. Brian (Janice) Brindley of Goderich; two sisters, Mrs. Art ( Mary) Stewart of R.R. 6 Goderich and Mrs. Ken ( Beth) Hodges of Dungannon; two brothers, John and Richard Jr. ( Dick), both of Dungannon; and 15 grandchildren. He was predeceased by one daughter, Beverley Faye Park in infancy; and one sister, Mrs. Howard ( Edna) Black. A funeral service was held at Stiles Funeral Home in Goderich on Wednesday, August 3 at 2 p.m. The Reverend John D.M. Wood officiated. Pallbearers were Bill Black of Goderich, Clair Hodges of R.R. 3 Goderich, Greg Park of R.R. 2 Auburn, Wayne Park of Dungannon, • Norman Stewart of Lambeth and John Stanbury of Dungannon. Interment was in Dungannon Cemetery. WILLIAM SNYDER William Snyder of Goderich died in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Saturday, July 30 at, the age of 89. He was born in Colborne Township on September 2$, 1893 to Levi and Emma (Blake) Snyder.,.He was a -farmer In both Colborne and Goderich Townships, retiring in 1967. He was a member of Victoria Street United Church, Goderich and past president of the Golden Gate Senior Citizens Club. He married Ida Truemner in Clinton on November 14, 1917. She survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Donald MacPhee Donald MacPhee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold MacPhee of Goderich and Christine Brady, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Brady of Oakville, were united in marriage June 24 at the Old Mill ChapelToronto, by the Reverend G. Loeki rt Royal of Moo Presbyterian Church, Goderich. Maid of honor was Kathy Brady of Newmarket, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Carol Brady of Caledonia, sister-in-law of the bride and Beth Andrew of Ancaster, friend of the bride. Following the candlelight ceremony, a reception was held in the Humber Room of the Old Mill. After a wedding trip to Bermuda, Mr. and Mrs. MacPhee took up residence in Goderich. Jack McLaren marks 87th birthday BI,YTH - Not only is Jack McLaren alive and well and living in Benmiller, but he intends to "out -Grandma Moses." Or so he told the audience attending the opening of a retrospective exhibition of his work at the Blyth Art Gallery Saturday July 23. And Jack McLaren, now 87, just might do it. He continui,d, "You know, they talk about Grandma Moses. She painted until she was 101. Well, I'm gong to paint until I reach 102.-' Saturday night's event was an emotional one for Mr. McLaren. Not only was the opening performed by • the Hon. Pauline McGibbon, former lieutenant -governor of Ontario, but Mr. McLaren was named an honorary director of the Blyth Centre for the Arts. The exhibition was also the second one-man showing the Blyth gallery has given the artist's work.
