By Yvette Richard The Goderich Trotting Association Pave was the featured event at the Goderich ftaceway, Thursday,. July 21. Jerry H Direct, owned and driven by Fred Maguire of Ailsa Craig, was the winner of this race in 2:03:4. Larry Daw,._General Manager of the Goderich Raceway, presented a blanket donated by the Goderich Trotting Associa- tion to Fred Maguire. Larry Daw also presented ' each winning driver with a Goderich Raceway mug, donated by Kirkey's Kar Kare. Lissas Girl, owned by Bob and Ron Daer of Goderich and driven by Randy McLean, won the fourth race in 2:07:3. This is her second win of the year. Owners Carl and Grant Fisher of Goderich had three horses racing Thursday night, Carpet Slipper finish- ed second in the third race and Handy Slipper finished third in the fourth race. Benin !ler Pete in the second fHnsherl second and Beniniller Bigshot finished fourth in the sixth race. Linlor Lebelle finished fourth an the ninth race. Ver- dun Vanstone drove all three horses., Gerry Roebuck drove three horses for owners Charles and Clara Brindley of Goderich. He finished third each time with Miss Krista Hal in the third, Rustic Dream in the fifth and Rustic Helene in the eighth race. B J Sunday, owned by Ben- son and Jean Feagan' of Goderich, finished fifth in the third race with John Muir driving. Hilea Ray finished seventh in the first race with John Muir driving for Benson and Jean. Driver and owners William and Mary McLean had two horses racing. Deep Run Super in the eighth finished sixth and Deep Run Skipper finished sixth in the tenth race. Peter Wave, owned by Bert Me Bride of Goderich, finished second in the fourth race with Ross Battin driv- ing, Mary T Henry, owned by Broken M Stables of Goderich and driven by Ray Mathers, finished. sixth in the sixth race. Miss Janes Rip, owned by Harry Kerr of Goderich, finished third in the seventh race with Ross Battin driv- ing. Rex G Ames, owned by Rex Duckworth of Goderich and driven by John Duckworth finished sixth in the seventh race with F M Meadow, owned by Edith Samis of Goderich and driven by Robert Vanstone, finishing seventh. RecreationReereation office has been minim ` program for children three to six years of age, that gives the children a variety of activities to keep them busy. The program is -called the Bert and Ernie Club and gives the children a chance to have fun with other children and, at the same time, learn some new crafts. "In the mornings they'll come in and paint or play with the blocks. In the after- noons fternoons we take them on special activites," explained Lisa Ryan, supervisor of this year's program. In the Community Centre, where the program has been held for the last two of its four year existence, iS a wide range of activitiesthat range from painting to playing with building blocks, and from singing to playing with water. Five-year-old -Danny Brindley is now back to the Bert and Ernie Club for his third summer. He enjoys making crafts and designs, but "I like the beach best because we get to swim," he explained. However, Skip Symes, who is back for his second .sum- mer, enjoyed his visit to Maitland Manor the most. "I like to go to that house the best because a know some of the people," he add- ed. The program will run until August 20 this year, and still to come are trips to Story Book Gardens, miniture golf and a visit to Maitland Manor, were the children will sing some of the songs they hive learned. Children can be enrolled on a weekly basis, at $20 per week, or any number of days during the week they would like their child to attend.
