RIEHL
In loving memory of a dear
mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother, Mildred K.
Riehl, who passed away July 31,
1982.
God needed an angel in his
heavenly throne,
That is why he called our belov-
ed mother home
He sow the sadness and pain on
your tired face
That's why he reserved you a
special place,
Still bitter tears and a broken
heart.
The year has been since we've
been apart.
He knew you were weary and
needed a rest
We love you Mom you were the
best,
A radiant light he gave you
when you went away,
So that we could follow It some-
day,
With Dad you're happy once
again,
Together your new life will
begin
When the days are sod and too
hard to bear,
We'll talk to you Mom in a silent
prayer,
In our hearts Mom
always there,
With the love you lett for all of
us to share
As a family what more could we
ask,
For with God you've found
peace at fast.
Lovingly remembered and
sadly missed by Pat, Wayne and

Frank Manderson, who passed
away July 27, 1970.
"They say you will not come
again, but I shall always hear
your voice in silence and in
song, and feel you ever near.
They say that you have passed
beyond, unto the joy supreme,
but I can always call you back
into the land of dream.
For deoth is but a gateway to
the great reality, a new beginn•
ing, not an end of human
destiny.
For love is all, and life goes on
in spite of grief and pain,
and deep within my heart I
know that we shall meet
again."

Clueto syndrome
Sudden infant death syn-
drome, the leading cause of
death in babies two weeks to
a year old, may be caused by
immature brain stems that
cannot properly control
sleep and breathing, scien-
tists say.
Clinical observations of
the syndrome show a con-
nection with impaired
breathing control in sleep,
Dr. Nobushisa Baba and his
colleagues at Ohio State
University said Thursday in
a commentary in The Jour-
nal of the American Medical
Association.
The syndrome occurs in
about one to three of every
1,000 live births and accounts
for almost 50 percent of total
infant mortality, Dr. Baba
said.
All sleeping infants exhibit
some form of breathing
cessation, called apnea, the
researchers said. However,
infants with the syndrome
who are revived without suf-
focating exhibit much longer
breathing pauses that may
indicate slower brain
development, the resear-
chers said.
The lag in maturity may
induce abnormal sleep pat-
terns that cause failure to
arouse from sleep in a
critical respiration pause,
Dr. Baba said.
"It also has been sug-
gested that infants may be at
risk for nrnlonged apnea if
their arousal response is im-
paired during sleep," the
researchers said. "An upper
respiratory tract infection,
which is associated with
sleep deprivation,
restlessness and irritability,
may play a role in depress-
ing the arousal mechanism
in the brain stem."
Thus, the researchers
said, the maturity of the
brain stem, which triggers
arousal and controls respira-
tion, "may correlate with
such a critical period of func-
tional organization."
Nerve network abnor-
malities, observed in the
brain stems of victims of the
syndrome, could be espon-
sible for imbalances In elec-
trical messages to the lungs
and related structures, the
scientists said.
Each year Christmas Seal
dollars fund research on the
causes and control of lung
disease. The Huron -Perth
Lung Association supports
this research through local
donations during the
Christmas Seal Campaign
and in memoriam gifts
received throughout the
year.
