GODERICH SIGNAL.STAR, WEDNESDAY, JULY 27, 1983—PAGE 7
ndersons will retire -after 27 years in business
Carl and Anne Anderson,
of Goderich, are planning to
take it easy after 27 years of
running their own store.
The couple has recently
sold Andersgn's Book Centre
and are now looking forward
to a relatively peaceful
retirement. After years of
,-ze hec10f-th spArzi41ttia
ly have time to read some of
them themselves.
They will have enough to
keep them busy. Their house
is full of books. Every wall
seems to be covered with
them, and there is one room
devoted solely to books, piled
on the shelves, the tables and
the floor.
What are their favorite
kinds? Mr. Anderson says he
likes the classics, and also
war books, and Westerns. He
has a complete collection of
Zane Grey for lighter
reading. One of his prized
collections is a leather bound
set of Tolstoy.
The Andersons even have
a book with their picture in
it. It's a book of poetry called
Sir- Roland; the author met
the Andersons when he was
researching it. Although
their picture is in the appen-
dix, they are not too sure
what the book is about. It
seems to be an epic poem
about the war.
Carl Anderson was born in
Goderich, and lived here all
his life. He met the former
Anne Bennet in Woodstock
where Anderson was station-
ed in the army. He
transferred to the aiir force
iii 1942, and became. a Spit
fire pilot in the 430 Squadron.
The couple married before
they were sent to England in
April, 1944. Mrs. Anderson
was also in the air force, and
worked at the headquarters
in London. Anderson's
.. ognadren-was part.of the tac-
tical air force which invaded
Europe.
The Andersons came back
to Goderich in 1945. They
bought Smith's Art Store in
1956, and turned in into
Anderson's Book Centre.
Anderson says, `.I've been a
book lover all my life, and I
always wanted to start a
book -"
Thestore store has been basical-
ly the same ever since the
Andersons bought it. They
have pretty well the .same
lines that they had 27 years
ago. In the beginning the
store also acted as the town's
travel agency, and they did
picture framing up to 10
years ago.
Mr. Anderson's second
passion, after books, is
music, especially marching
band music. His favorite
band is the Royal Marines
Band of England, and he has
a large collection of mar-
ching music records. As well
as listening to music, Mr.
Anderson used to play cornet
in the Goderich Boy's Band
and Bluewater Band,
altogether for 25 years.
Although the Andersons
are looking forward to some

I want to say, also, the hill

with the plantings and nice

there is a nice little tree - a

there is no better place to be

here. Maybe later on they

new experience for them;
they have not been on a
