Over the past decade Main
'Street Bayfield has
developed as an exclusive
boutique shopping area.
With character, class, quali-
ty and variety, Bayfield's
stores compare to the
popular shopping areas of
Elora and Niagara -On -The -
Lake.
When it's shopping time in
Bayfield, it's time to think
about birthdays, weddings,
anniversaries, even
Christmas. Bayfield shops
offer unique gifts for
everyone.
. -A quick walking tour down
Main Street shows the
tremendous variety and fun
that the shops offer.
Lavender
and Lace
Lavender and Lace may
seem small, but the mer-
chandise sold in this new
shop packs a lot of appeal.
Fashion designer Carolyn
Perry of Exeter has brought
her original, line of lingerie
and loungewear to Bayfield;
perfect for these hot summer
nights.
Perry's nighties and un-
dies, camisoles and slips
come in a variety of colors,
from jade to baby blue, from
peach to sensuous black.
Delicate fabrics, lace and
frills make her designs uni-
que and oh so appealing.
Needle and I Too
Next door is another
popular specialty shop, Nee-
dle And I Too. Summer
tourists and local residents
buy their patterns, wool,
cross stitch, crewl, smock-
ing
mocking and needlepoint supplies
here.
A branch of their London
shop, Needle And I Too
specializes in all -natural
yarns and those Ala a
minimum of man-made
fibre. The shop also 'carries
an extensive supply of
smocking and cross "stitch
patterns and threads.
If .you don't have the time
or talent to create your own
handmade garments, Needle
And I Too also sells a selec-
tion of handknit sweaters,
stitched quilts and smocked
outfits. They also take
custom orders.
Memory Lane
At the end of a shady path
shoppers come to Memory
Lane, one of Bayfield's
quality antique shops.
Ken and Evelyn Holmes of
Clinton have made quality
and authenticity their aims
since opening Memory Lane
four years ago. They
specialize in the Victorian
and Edwardian eras and sell
original china, glassware,
furniture and paintings. Ken
favors Nippon china and
needlepoint topped benches.
The Wardrobe
Before it was in vogue, The
Wardrobe opened in
Bayfield. That was seven
years ago and today The
Wardrobe has established
itself as one of the finest
ladies' wear stores in the
area.
A shop for all seasons, The
Wardrobe has a selection of
upbeat, fun, cotton designs
for summer and a full line of
fall and winter clothes,
featuring a pet g size selec-
tion -of coats. .`4"
The Wardrobe carries the
best Canadian designs and
styles, comparable to the
current fashions in Toronto
and Montreal. The shop also
carries a popular line of ac-
cessories, from belts and
sashes to necklaces and
scarves.
Downtown Bayfield is a shopper.'s delight. Specialty stores and boutiques line the
shady street. Most are open seven days a week until Labor Day, and weekends until
Thanksgiving. (Shelley McPhee photo)
'The Wardrobe mixes the
best of two worlds. It has the
charm of country pine decor
and up-to-date styles in
clothes and accessories.

The Country Store
Bayfield's village charm is
enhanced by exterior and in-
terior appearances of shops
like The Bayfield Country
Store.
Owners Arlene and Jan
Kok have developed a shop
full of old-fashioned country
appeal. Wood shelves, from
floor to ceiling, are loaded
with all sorts of handmade
gifts and goodies. The scent
of spices, potpourris, soaps
and bubble bathes complete
the atmosphere.
The shop sells folk art and
handcrafts including
stoneware, geramic and
glass. Also featured are
decorative home accessories
including fine soaps,
candles, teas, spices, Swiss
chocolate and exotic
preserves.
Sterling and gold hand-
crafted jewelry accompany
the wide range of ladies
fashions for summer and
fall. Summer lines lean
towards cotton, while silk
and wool are favorites for
the fall and winter war-
drobes.
Comfortably settled in a
frame building, constructed
in the mid -1800's, The
Bayfield Country Store has
maintained the original old
world flavor of the building,
a perfect harmonizer for the
quaint village of Bayfield.
