We were headed for a brightbot day. I get tired of tippy -toeing - around the house in the mor- ning.' onnings so decided to have a look -at the harbour. Nothing exciting there, no ships, not many people around. so I cut for St. Christopher's Beach. Hadn't seen it too often in the last two years. Well, now, was I in for a big surprise! I had been afraid of what I might see since there had been so much senseless damage done by late night hot heads. The new scene was quite a shock. A lot of people were enjoying themselves. I couldn't see if people were swimming, but I noticed the new boardwalks and all that heavy black chain held up -by nice white posts. A lot of thought had gone into all this and I'm sure everyone will say, "Thank You i " I drove slowly along and noticed signs of building • near the water filtration plant. What is it? Anyway, it was nice to see such. im- provement in the area. I always turn around in the next area where the springs trickle down - the hill and keep a few mud puddles there. NICE. NICE. NICE! Going further, huge stones indicated a gateway and beyond them a winding road I had never seen before. So I went on down to the ,end. There was plenty of landfill laying about like an old junk yard - but what a junk yard! There was paving, tires, stones - all kinds of discards needed to make a solid footing against any angry waves that tried to wash out the whole area. It was so ug- ly, it was beautiful. Finally - and with great ef- fort - I'm sure - something is being done to give us back a Wi. I know I'm a little late in my discovery - but I had no idea THIS much work was .going on besides all the -paving and improving of many of our streets. So it was a pleasant surprise. Most of the big old birches were still hanging on - lean- ing. 'way out over the driveway. I made a lovely painting of that drive many, many years ago: It hangs in an especially nice home in Windsor. One of these days I'll do another! I don't know how long I had dawdled but I saw a cou- ple of fellows - one busily washing a nice red car and I realized I was dying of thirst- I pulled up. "Is that drinking water you're us- ing?" I said. "Yes, there's the tap," one said. So I decid- ed, to use toy nice teacup I hadhought earlier at the flea -- may,* I Was luckj►tohave a cup in the car - but I'll bet I've got just abottt any other item you might need in a pinch. So, I had three or four daint cups full and, one of the fellows remarked that my car "was in pretty good shape." "It's a '66," I bragg- ed. I couldn't hey►- blit remark about the'`') eautiful red car, black feather and all - and the owner said "It's a '62!" I was • pleasantly sur- prised urprised - again. What a morn- ing. I was almost home before I realized I didn't know the MAKE of the car- Darn! How did I ever miss THAT! All in all, it was a great start for the 'week. I had stopped in at the flea market before going to the harbour and/ the many pleasant greetings had made me feel good.. For the first time I could recall, I bargained so- meone down on something I really wanted but didn't really NEED. So, I hope you, too, had a happy day. If you feel that yours was just bla-a-a - then look -around - with a smile. - there's one floating around just waiting for you, somewhere! Enjoy it. Love, Martha P.S. Don't forget there are still lots of things to see in and around the Court House Park. Arts and crafts, sidewalk sales and other things going on AND friends you haven't seen for a while. A generous donation from the Atkinson Foundation in Toronto has helped to purchase a new whirlpool bath for the Huron Day Care Centre. The bath is extensively used by many of the Centre's disabled clients. _r__ - ALL POINTS.
