League, '
On Monday,. July 4, the
Generals won acl
age theme .3m2.
Both banns were tied fe
cond dice going into the
game, but now the Generals
lead the league by oneipoint
over the Oakleafs.
The Generals opened the
scoring in the first period
a goal from Todd Jew,
which was the only goal of
the period.
During the second period,
Chas Sideris scored twice..
Kevin Talbot and Brad
O'Neil showed great passing
ability as they both assisted
on all three Generals goals.
The Capitals kept the
game close right up until the
last minute, pulling Ray
Bedard in hope of a tying
goal, that never materializ-
ed. Shawn Larder and Dar-
ren
arren Doak scored the two
goals for the Capitols.
In the game against the
Oakleafs and the Leafs, the
Leafs showed the first place
Oakleaff,, going into the
game, that they can be a
threat, downing the Oakleafs
3-1.
Scoring for the Leafs were
Byron Bowman, Greg
Crawford and Joe Fitz-
patrick who also got an
assist on Crawford's goal.
The lone Oakleaf goal was
scored by Jim Beattie as the
Oakleafs now drop into se-
cond place behind the
Generals.

The Goderich Lawn Bowl-
ing Club again hosted their
annual Victoria and Grey
silver dollar mixed doubles
tournament on the weekend.
The.Goderich,Club,hs run a
tournament on July 1st holi-
day continuously for well
over 50 years and the Vic-
toria and Grey Trust Com-
pany has sponsored the
event for just about half of
that time span.
The V & G silver dollars
event always attracts a good
entry of top flight lawn
bowlers, all eager to test
their skills and strategies
against their opponent
teams. They come from Lon-
don, Kitchener and Stratford
and practically all of the
smaller communities sur-
rounding Goderich.
Goderich is not without its
skilled bowlers, and this
year the top award was won
by a Goderich team compos-
ed of Marj Sturdy who
displayed an outstanding
skill as the "lead" player,
coupled with Lee Ryan,
always closing in for the kill
with his usual display of
masterful "skipping"
abilities, winning all three
games with a total score of
44 points along with an over -
plus of nine points for good
measure.
All lawn bowling tour-
naments have their
"runners-up" teams, and
this honour went to Mary
and Art Finlayson from
Seaforth with three wins and
a total score of 41 points.
Third place went to Esther
and Mel Brady also of
Seaforth with three wins and
38 points. Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Fisher of Lucknow captured
fourth spot with three wins
and 35 points. Mr. and Mrs_
Harvey McCallum of Blyth
got fifth spot with two wins
and 44 points and Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Tilley of Seaforth
again came in for sixth place
with two wins and 40 points.
Mr. and Mrs. Dave Col-
clough of London took
seventh place with two wins
and 39 points. Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Higgins from Blyth
knocked off the consolation
prize with a last game high
score of 18 points and no
previous wins.
Also on Monday evening
last week, a barbecue was
held, convened and hosted
by Len and Peg Lumsden
and Ken and Paddy Chap-
pell. The barbecue was to be
held on the greens but the
rain forced the event in-
doors. With a full atten-
dance, it turned into a most
enjoyable evening. After the
• perfectly prepared chicken
was consumed, the rest of
the evening was spent danc-
ing and playing cards, with
Ozzie Falkiner doing his
usual excellent job on the
piano.
