The now store is located in Collingwood, on Blue Mountain Road. The store's manager Is Dan Ruppel, son of Jack Ruppel who owns Zilllax Furniture and Appliances and who manages the original store in Listowel. The Collingwood location is the third new store Zilllax has opened In four years. It opened a store In Kincardine in 1980, and a year later it opened up Its Goderich location. Both of these stores are now managed by Jack's other son, Mike Ruppel. Zilllax Furniture and Appliances is probably the oldest established business In Listowel. Zilllax Hardware was started In 1892 by Jack Rappel's grandfather. In 1954, Jack became a partner with other family members. In 1961 he started buying out the shares In the company so by 1968 he was the sole owner. In the early 1970's, Jack Ruppel put o small furniture area in the back of his hardware store. Furniture eventually became his main line, and In 1978 Ruppel sold the hardware end of his business. Shortly; thereafter, Zilllax Furniture moved Into its present location -a brand now store of 30,000 square feet. Zilllax has remained a family company true to Its tradition. Jack Ruppel is president, his wife Peggy is secretary -treasurer, and his two sons manage the. three newer locations. Mike Ruppel says that having more branch stores allows Zilllax to buy furniture in bulk. Thus they can buy, and sell, at cheaper prices than smaller independent furniture stores. The keys to Zilliax's success, according to Ruppel, are successful advertising, and volume buying and selling. These have helped Zilllax Furniture to expand their business In times when simply to stay In business was a challenge. CIun'clt D' aCalvary Baptist Church i HAYFIELD ROAD AT BLAKE STREET 1 REV. R. With the help of the teacher, they planned a surprise party for him and arrived on the ap- pointed day. The boy's mother called him because she was sure he was not far away. He did not answer, and he could not be found. The class waited and waited. Finally the class went ahead with the games, ate the cake and ice cream, enjoyed the soft drinks, and left ,for home without the guest of honor making an ap- pearance. Later he came home, and his mother persisted until she had the truth. He had heard her call all right, but supposing she had an errand or a job for him, he had run away until suppertime. He felt terrible when he learned about the party he missed. Jesus told a story about a man who prepared a great dinner and how the people in- vited would not come. It is a part of our human perversity that we are afraid to trust God's kind invitation. We run from what we truly seek...we long for God when we are not aware of it. We exhaust every other search before we turn to Hire. Recall the Parable of, the Prodigal Son, and get the picture of the feast of 'good things that awaits the person who returns to God. To the servants, the father of the prodigal son said, "Bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry" (Luke 15:23). Please don't miss that word "merry". There's a meal and there's merriment. Is there someone who will say, "I thought that the religion of Christ was a long -faced, melancholy sort of thing." You never made such a mistake in your life. The on- ly way to be truly happy is to be rightly related, to God. Heaven comes alive with music ,when a sinner comes home. Don't miss all the joy!
