GODERICH, ONTARIO, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 290193
SECOND SECTION
Men's SJopitch League play
Week number eight of the GMSL
schedule is now history and believe it or
not, there are only three full weeks Left in
the regular schedule.
It is therefore time to refresh our
memories as to the unique play-off strut
tore this year. At the conclusion of regular
season play in which everyone plays each
other once, we will split into three divi-
sions based on point standing- In the event
of a tie we will look at the outcome of the
game between the teams that are tied. In
the event of a tie in that game ... oh forget
it ._. it's getting too messy"
The executive,, realizes that when you
edit 19 teams into three divisions, there is
one team left over Y math talk ). Thus, one
of the divisions will have seven teams.
That lucky division will not be determin-
ed until, our team rep meeting scheduled
for 9 p.m. at the ree. office on Monday, Ju-
ly 18. At that time we will decide whether
the point standing dictates a 7-6-6, a 6-7-6,
or a 6-6-7 division split.
If this split were made today, m all
likelihood, the Bears through to the Cedar
Lodge team would . he in. --A". Canadian
Tire to Sifto Salt would occupy "B" while
Tickers to Garb and Gear would take "C".
Fortunately or perhaps unfortunately,
the split is not made today and it is bound
to change in the next couple of weeks. You
should, however, bef this playoff
structure, ,
Once playoffs begih, each team will play
every other team in their own division
twice Y double round robin ). Those teams
with the highest playoff point total in each
division will receive the divisional trophy.
The not so lucky teams will hopefully be
satisfied with what the executive feels is
an extremely fair playoff structure_
Now 'that you have seen the points and
playoff structure, let'stake a quick look at
what happened around the league this`
week_
In what was supposed to be the battle of
the week, Goderich Chrysler came up with
a solid performance to defeat Goderich
Auto Sales by a score of 13-2. In that game,
Bear umpire John Anderson learned "how
not to adjust the rubber mat while a batter
is in the box". Earlier in the week Chrysler
edged Sifto Salt, 10-7. •
Cedar Lodge got back on track as they
blasted Goderich Gas Rite, 19-7 and
ff structure is unique
Tickers, 16-11. The Port Albert Bulldogs,
not impressive as late, edged harbour
Park Raiders, 12-10 and coasted to a 10-2
decision over winless Local 1863.
aware o p y Garb and Gear maintained their perfect
record by
opping a close 8-5 decision to
Coyotes and losing 104 to Harbour Park
Raiders. Canadian Tire came from behind
to steal a 12-11 victory from Carlow but
later in the week were doubled up by
Meneset, 18-9.
Little Bowl continued their suspect play
in a 7-5 loss to Goderich Gas Rite while
Renegades and Local 1863 battled it out to
a 9-9 draw.
Sifto Salt pounded Bluewater, 19-11 and
the Bears continued their undefeated
streak with a 14-3 victory over Meneset.
Coyotes moved into second place with a 9-3
decision over Carlow and both Friday
night games were cancelled due to the
'tickers' tournament in Dungannon_
This Wednesday features two games
that are bound to be close. Auto Sales take
