( photo by Darrell Kloeze ) Donate $200 to Atoms Goderich town council endorsed a recommendation from the ad- ministrative committee that $200 be donated to the Goderich Machinist Atom hockey team for a banquet. The atoms won the Ontario. Minor Hockey Association all -Ontario championship this year. Councillor John Doherty said that while he did not oppose the motion the $200 would more than pay for the banquet for the 17 players, one coach and manager and not simply contribute towards the cost as the original motion suggested. "You can't convince me that 17 kids, a coach and manager will have a banquet bill over $200," he said. Lions' barbecue The Goderich Lions Club will again participate in the July 1 weekend celebrations with a pancake breakfast and beef barbeque. However, this year the club informed council it will hold both the breakfast and barbeque in Lions Harbour Park, in and around the ne'v picnic pavillion. The club has donated money for the construction of the new pavillion, expected to be complete this month.' Klngsten St. GOIRIRICH 524-13733 COMMUNITY NEWS Beer garden The works committee of council has asked the recreation board to investigate the possibility of having a beer garden structure erected on the south end of the grandstand. The Goderich Trotting Association approached council asking permission to erect a structure on the north end of the grandstand. Residents in the area asked the committee to consider having the beer garden at the south end. The recreation board has been asked for comments on the situation. Police Chief Pat King reported to council that the Block Parent program is almost operational in Goderich again. The program has been delayed while participants waited for the posters for display in their windows to arrive. Those posters have arrived and the town will announce its participation in the program by erecting signs at the three entrances to town proclaiming Goderich as a "Block Parent Community."
