Donate $200 to Atoms
Goderich town council endorsed a
recommendation from the ad-
ministrative committee that $200 be
donated to the Goderich Machinist Atom
hockey team for a banquet. The atoms
won the Ontario. Minor Hockey
Association all -Ontario championship
this year. Councillor John Doherty said
that while he did not oppose the motion
the $200 would more than pay for the
banquet for the 17 players, one coach and
manager and not simply contribute
towards the cost as the original motion
suggested. "You can't convince me that
17 kids, a coach and manager will have a
banquet bill over $200," he said.
Lions' barbecue
The Goderich Lions Club will again

the club informed council it will hold both
the breakfast and barbeque in Lions
Harbour Park, in and around the ne'v
picnic pavillion. The club has donated
money for the construction of the new
pavillion, expected to be complete this
month.'

Beer garden
The works committee of council has
asked the recreation board to investigate
the possibility of having a beer garden
structure erected on the south end of the
grandstand. The Goderich Trotting
Association approached council asking
permission to erect a structure on the
north end of the grandstand. Residents in
the area asked the committee to consider
having the beer garden at the south end.
The recreation board has been asked for
comments on the situation.
Police Chief Pat King reported to
council that the Block Parent program is
almost operational in Goderich again.
The program has been delayed while
participants waited for the posters for
display in their windows to arrive. Those
posters have arrived and the town will
announce its participation in the
program by erecting signs at the three
entrances to town proclaiming Goderich
as a "Block Parent Community."
